Faith in Uncertainty

Sometimes the most clarifying moments in life are the ones where we don't know.

Faith in Uncertainty
Katie Elliott

One thing I know for certain is I'm that kind of person who is never certain. Currently, I am in the stage of my college career where I am faced with discovering who I am, and more complicated, who I want to be. For what feels like the one hundredth time, I have begun looking at changing my major. In grade school, we were under this grand illusion that once you know what you want to do in life, that didn't change. That mentality stuck with me for as long as I can remember and I cannot exaggerate how frustrating that kind of thinking has been. My younger self, at some point, imagined me as one of the following: a music major, marine biologist, writer, or regular biologist, and I threw in kinesiology/exercise science last minute a year ago. As someone who likes to be somewhat prepared for things, this constant inner struggle has led me to be a recipe of disaster. A cup of unnecessary stress, a dash self-doubt and a dollop of feeling misplaced in the world. The beautiful thing about this recipe is that it’s just a course in the meal called life. Ultimately, those feelings will pass if you let them inspire you. If you’re in high school, a freshman in college, or just trying to figure out life, my advice to you is do not rush the process even though you may just want everything to instantly be fixed. Coming from someone who has transferred schools and changed their major multiple times, really put thought into discovering who you are. You won't find yourself in a day like I had hoped. If that were the case, I don't believe we would have the lifetime that we do. When it comes to college, it’s important to understand that going into this scary new world, it’s ok to not know what you want. The point of college is to discover yourself and what you can contribute to this world. It is also important to push your boundaries. If you’re not uncomfortable at some point, how will you know if you’re comfortable?

I think you will find that you will surprise yourself. I use to hate school and for being halfway through sophomore year of college, I surprised myself today by deciding to double major in exercise and health science. Never stop exploring who you are. In this life, one of the most rewarding things you can do is use your gifts and passions to make a mark on this world even though you may feel lost or like a grain of sand on a never ending beach. Doubt is an enemy of many and I promise that if you work hard, you can do anything. In words of Christopher Robin from Winnie the Pooh, "Promise me you'll always remember: you're braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think".

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
