I used to never use a planner. I saw absolutely no point in having one, like...writing down my appointments, keeping my schedule organized? The concept of organizing was not my priority until junior year of high school. I was admitted into my first AP class (Language to be exact) and I was working. I had no choice but to get organized and thanks to my high school I could do that. Every year they gave us these planners with our mascot on the front cover and every year I would neglect it. Until I met Mrs. Berretta. Berretta was a middle-aged white woman from Atlanta who had a zero nonsense policy (we stan a legend) and she told my graduating class straight up—
"If y'all don't use this planner, you gone fail at life!"
How did that correlate with failing at life? I wasn't getting it until I started to forget assignments, forget I had quizzes, and even forget I had work. Berretta was very much right. If you didn't have a planner you were going to fail in life. So, I began the hunt.
While looking for planners I ran across the Erin Condren Planners, those that are like $100 or more. That's a textbook. That's a bill. I couldn't do that. After searching high and low, I ran across an affordable line of planners from Michaels. As soon as I purchased it, I began writing every single event in my life down. Having a planner made a lot more sense and my grades were slowly on the climb now that I had everything laid out in front of me.
During my first year in college, I needed my planner more than ever. I was so busy sometimes that I had to plan when I was going to eat. My friends and I were penciling in lunch dates in each other's planners and whenever I wanted to go out, I knew when I could. It all made sense.
While not everyone may be about that intense planning life like I am, but even having your schedule on your phone can do the job. While I was not the biggest fan of planners in my younger years, I now understand why teachers, middle-aged adults, and college students now carry around planners and swear by them. They are amazing, they are great, and they keep me sane.
If you've ever thought about investing in a planner, I would suggest starting in affordable and accessible places like Amazon, Target or Michaels. They will provide you with cute designs, a variety of sizes all for the low-low. Being unorganized and unprepared is no longer the move this year. It's all about organization people!
