Old Fads That Could And Should Make A Comeback

Who's ready to feel nostalgic?

As the years go by, we've all seen our favorite (or least favorite) trends come and go. It isn't a new concept by any stretch of the imagination. Even exclusively talking about iPhone apps reveals a saga of fads that have been replaced time and time again. "Angry Birds" was replaced by "Candy Crush," "Candy Crush" was replaced by "2048," "2048" was replaced by "Pokémon Go," and I'm positive that in the next year at the very most, something else will swoop in to make even "Pokémon Go" obsolete. Still, there are a few trends that make a comeback every so often, as we've already seen the "punk" style do with younger generations in the past year. In my opinion, there are still so many styles, phrases, and totally random other things that absolutely need to resurface at least one more time. With this in mind, I have made a list of my top 10 fads I think should or are bound to make a triumphant return, in no particular order of importance. So strap in, readers!

1. Random Item: The Flip- Phone

I know I am not the only person who misses the aura of teen angst and rebellion that comes with repeatedly flipping this phone screen. I personally would be perfectly fine with an iPhone that had a flip screen, wouldn't you?

2. Phrase: "Bitchin'"

This was most popularly used in the 60's, and can mean anything similar to amazing, great, awesome, etc. Surprisingly enough, I've already heard a few people my age and a bit older use this expression. Hmm, I think I might start saying it too...

3. Style: Overalls

Now we turn our attention the famous era of classic fashion dos and don'ts: the 1990's. One of the more successful and more popular trends in women's clothing particularly was the style of wearing overalls over a frilly top or plain tee-shirt. Not only was this a fad in the 90's, it actually became an iconic fashion statement back in the late 70's and early 80's. Who knows, it could make a triumphant return in the near future.

4. Random Item: Reading

"Wait, whoa, people still read, Lauren!" Not quite. Specifically within my generation and those younger as well, reading seems to be more of a punishment than a hobby. Sure, when "The Hunger Games" or "Fifty Shades of Grey" is brought up in conversation, there is a decent chance that the titles will be recognized right away. However, classics such as "The Great Gatsby" and "Catcher in the Rye" are generally greeted in one of two ways by my fellow millennials - either by an utterly perplexed look or the word, "Ew."

5. Phrase: "Cool beans."

Though I've included this phrase from the early 2000's on my little list of nostalgia, I have to admit that it hasn't gone completely extinct. Every now and again, I hear someone say it absentmindedly in random conversation, which definitely makes me feel better about the fact that I will say it in virtually any conversation. Feel free to judge me.

6. Style: Saddle Shoes

You might recognize this shoe style from the bowling alley you went to last weekend. Back in the day, this was a pretty common and popular accessory. Slowly but surely, more and more people are starting to attempt to bring them back.

7. Phrase: "Eat my shorts."

A comeback from back in the 80's. The effect it would have today is priceless, as responding to an insult this way would be answered with a look of complete and utter confusion.

8. Style: Headscarf

This is an old, vintage hair accessory from the 50's. While it may seem like something from that long ago could never resurrect as a legitimate fashion statement, just remember how popular dream catchers are becoming again. In case you didn't know, they were originally popular in the 60's and 70's.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
