My Facebook Friends Helped Make America Wrong Again

America is great and always has been great. Until now.

As Hillary supporters, we are allowed to mourn the loss of her candidacy, and the win of Donald Trump’s. Just as you would do if your candidate lost, and ours had won.

We are allowed to be upset, and we are allowed to clean you off of our social media.

You cannot shame us for cleaning out our friends on Facebook, and other social media sites. Yes, we do live in a country where people have their own views, and we’re all allowed to vote for who we deem best to run our country. You do not have to tell me this, I am aware. I am not unfriending you necessarily based on who you voted for, I am not petty. I am unfriending you because I can no longer look at you with the same respect I once did. If I had known sooner your thoughts, we probably would not have been friends at all.

By voting for Donald Trump you have told me that you don’t care about racism, sexism, sexual assault, or the progression of our growing country.

I have friends who are scared that their legal right to marriage will be taken away. I am sure you have friends who also have this fear, how could you vote against their rights? What they do behind a closed bedroom door has no affect on your life. Who they love has nothing to do with you. So their rights should not be allowed to be taken from you.

I know young women who have been raped. They have told me that if they had gotten pregnant from this sexual assault they endured, and they couldn’t have an abortion, they would have killed themselves. I hope you, and everyone that you love are never in this position, because by electing Donald Trump you may have taken away a woman's right to do as she sees fit with her own body.

I know most of you have African American friends, but I now see how you must put yourself apart from them. White privilege is real. I can fear for my friends that are not white, but I will never directly experience what they will have to go through now that Donald Trump has been elected. But I am sure his relationship with “the blacks”, (his words not mine), will get WAY better throughout his candidacy (sarcasm). African Americans who are already targeted by police are now going to be targeted even more if Donald Trump brings back “stop and frisk” which was put to a stop in 2013 by federal court. This act was put to a stop because evidence determined that police in New York were using this tactic to stop huge numbers of African American and Latino people for guess what? No reason. Stop and Frisk did not reduce crime in New York, it was just a “legal” way for racism to be covered up. Thank you for voting for a man who wants to put this act back in place, but don’t worry, most of you are not African American so you will not be searched.

I believe that with Donald Trump in office we will go back years in the progress that was made during the Obama administration’s time in office. LGBT communities are now in fear unknowing what will happen to their rights. Those affected by sexual assault will now be even more hesitant than they already are about coming forward with accusations against the person who assaulted them, because we have elected someone into office who thinks saying “grab them by the pussy” is just locker room talk, and not offensive to women. African Americans are now going to be targeted even more than they already are. All because our country has elected Donald Trump into office.

So I am not sorry for unfriending you, and I am not sorry that I have lost respect for you. In my opinion, you cannot keep up with the progression of our country, so you would like to go back to when Donald Trump THINKS America was great. You helped this man into office. So THANK YOU for showing me your true colors.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
