Facebook recently announced that it will be adding a way for users to show their dislike for something on the social media site.
Many people have agreed that when reading posts, pictures and videos on Facebook they may not actually "like" Facebook leaves them no other choice of acknowledgement but to like it.
"I think having a dislike button would give people more freedom to express their opinions without creating conflict," Caroline Cosgrove, LSU student, said.
Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said that having just dislike button could be misleading but adding a different way for users to express themselves to the site may not be such a bad idea, according to TechCrunch.
However, some people are viewing the addition of the dislike button in a negative way. If a user doesn't actually "like" a Facebook post currently, by giving the post the "like" button, it can still be a sign of acknowledgment, but not in a negative direct way.
"Some people may take the dislike button or symbol negatively and think their ideas are under attack from cyber bullying," Alexis Bernard, Our Lady of The Lake student, said, "I think the button will have both positive and negative effects.
The biggest fear many Facebook users are said to have is that having just a "Dislike" button will indeed just add negativity and more drama to the social media site.
According to TechCrunch, Zuckerberg said that people have suggested the button more-so as a reason to be able to say that something isn't necessarily good or socially acceptable for the community and he doesn't want to build just a "Dislike" button because he doesn't want the site to turn into a negative forum.
One option is to add a an Emoji reaction button, which Facebook has already patented.
Only time will tell to see what exactly is the next step of action for Facebook's "Dislike" button.
