How I Survived 4 Months Abroad Without 'Grey's Anatomy"'
The Scarlett Woman

When I decided to study abroad at the start of 2017 I had no real understanding of what I was giving up. I am not talking about my Philly cheesesteaks, the comfort of my bed, or my friends and family. No, I am talking about my relationship with "Grey's Anatomy." No, really, I'm not kidding.

When I was younger, my mom and I would watch "Grey's Anatomy" together. Sometimes I would have to turn away from the TV or have the channel quickly changed since some scenes were quite sexual or just really freaky. I know the bladder being removed from grandma who fell down the steps with her desperate family in the waiting room is not actually true, but if you think that way, then what is the fun in watching the show.?

In opening my roommates Xfinity account, I was eager to see my “old” favorite show available to watch. I made the executive decision to start all the way back at Season 1, so I could fully appreciate the show. It was a life changing decision. My love for the characters grew strong, as is normal when feeling so connected with a show. When McDreamy died, a part of me went with him (there is no way that at this point I spoiled that one). The fights, the surgeries, the relationships, they all seemed so real. If you want a good cry watch pretty much any episode. My semester before abroad left my roommates wondering what I was actually crying over or who I was yelling at for most of the semester.

When going abroad, the idea is to forget TV. You should experience the world in full capacity, and the only screen involved should be the one capturing how good you look, and the amazing experiences you are having. However, when you are studying for more than 6 weeks, you experience home sickness. Since you can’t have the people you are used to beside you, you can’t lay in your comfiest bed, or have your favorite food, the obvious response is to watch your favorite show!

Well, that proved to be WRONG! Xfinity was blocked abroad! As I lay in my flat, I could not believe I would go my entire 4 months without "Grey's Anatomy." This led me to go to Netflix, and I had my eyes opened to new shows! I will never forget McDreamy or McSteamy or Dr. Avery, but Donald Draper really completes me.

If it wasn’t for the UK blocking Xfinity, I would never have found my new love of Netflix binging! Don’t worry, I lived it up abroad, but Netflix was a comfort blanket! Now, the newest season of "Grey's Anatomy" is on Netflix, oh happy day!

And if you haven't already, please watch "Grey's Anatomy," and your life will be changed! To be continued on my reaction to the ending of Mad Men, as I am on the last season. :’(

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
