What To Expect Now That You've Joined A Sorority

The day has finally come. You have dreamed of being in a sorority and having a home away from home all during recruitment, and the day has finally come. You are now officially affiliated to a chapter and are about to become a part of something bigger than yourself. But what happens now? Here are just a few things to expect now that you have joined a sorority.

1. Your best friends.

Joining a sorority means gaining instant friends, and these girls are usually girls you would never have met if it wasn't for your sorority. You also end up spending so much time with them, that it's hard not to become close with them. These girls will become your best friends, future room mates, and future bridesmaids. These girls will become your lifeline, which is something to get excited about.

2. Leadership skills

There are so many opportunities for leadership positions within a sorority, not just exec. If there is any position that you are interested in holding, run for it. Holding a leadership position in a sorority looks great on a resume, and it gives you awesome experience for the future. I highly encourage you to take some sort of position, because you seriously won't regret it.

3. Confidence in yourself

You learn how to truly become yourself when you join a sorority. You learn who you are as a person, and to become so comfortable with the people around you that you don't care what other people think. You become comfortable with wearing sweats and no makeup, and even having greasy hair. You also become comfortable with your weird little quirks, and your whole self. Speaking in front of people at Chapter helps a lot, too.

4. The best memories

You will gain so many memories from late night study sessions, nights out, living in house, and so much more. Some of the best nights aren't even nights out with your sisters. Some of my favorite memories involve staying in and watching The Bachelor, or movies, or just taking a drive to go to the mall and get food. You will always have a friend around, and there will always be someone who will want to hang out with you.

5. Connections

Joining a sorority also gives you great connections. If you go to apply for a job, and someone in that office happened to be in your sorority or even any sorority, you more than likely have a leg up over other applicants. Being in a sorority shows employers that you are involved, have leadership positions, and great experience.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
