We still have about two months left of summer vacation and I am already so excited to go back to school. Don't get me wrong, summer is my favorite part of the year because I get to lay on the beach without any worries or deadlines. While I love basking in the sun, I am looking forward to start a new semester. Here's why:
1. Spending time with friends
When school is in session, I am able to walk down the hall in my slippers at any time to knock on my friend's door and watch movies, talk, or head to the dining hall for dinner. Everyone is my neighbor. I can't sit in their room and pretend to study. Part of my everyday routine has disappeared. During the summer, I have to get in the car and drive to see any of my friends. I can't just walk out my door when I want some company.
2. Something is always going on
Whether it's a club event or a comedian at your school, there is never a dull moment. Most of these activities also include free food or shirts, which I don't mind a bit. It helps that everything is walking distance. Even if you're tired of the same old dining hall food, Wing It On is a five minute walk, along with fro-yo and Dunkin' Donuts. Want something to do on Thursday night? You have so many options.
3. New things
The new semester brings new classes, professors, friends, activities, and living space. You get a fresh slate to make this semester your best one yet. You can decorate your room differently and take classes you really enjoy (hopefully). So get involved and put yourself out there. Continue trying new things and changing up your routine because college is a time to discover yourself and your interests.
4. Gym access
Now that Domino's is just five minutes away again, it's good that the gym is even closer (and free!). You can get back to hitting the gym and trying out fitness classes. Since college is so expensive, we deserve whatever we can get at no cost. Why pay for a gym membership when your school has everything you need?
5. Independence
Being away at school means no curfew and no one saying you can't order pizza at 3AM. However, it also means you get to take care of yourself when you get sick and laundry is your own responsibility. College allows you to act like a grown up even though you aren't yet. It's kind of like a trial run, so it's okay if you mess up a few times before you get it right.
I plan on enjoying every second of my summer, but that doesn't mean I can't be excited to return to school in September.
