I spent a long time pretending that I was good at things that I simply wasn’t. For starters, I’m unorganized. I have terrible time management skills and I’m completely scatterbrained. I also care too much about what people think of me and can get very jealous and territorial. There you go. All of those things are things that I’ve come to accept about myself, and that I can now begin to work on. With dedication, I may just be able to change a few of those faults.
Until recently, I was in denial about all of those things. I wouldn’t let myself believe that they were legitimate issues that had gotten in the way of multiple aspects of my life. It took a long time for me to allow myself to accept these parts of me. It’s hard openly admitting to your flaws, especially when they’re active in a real-life event. Even if you’ve joked about these parts of yourself, opening up about the roles they play in your day to day life can be very difficult.
Learning to accept these parts of you, however, is the only way to change them. By embracing the things about yourself that are to accept, you enable yourself to work on them. You give yourself the power to become your best self by acknowledging that you’re imperfect.
Knowing these things about yourself will also help you understand yourself so much more. They’re an explanation for your motives behind your actions. They account for much of your subconscious. They’ll give reason for many of your feelings and emotions that you may have otherwise deemed invalid.
It’s not easy to accept your flaws, but once you do, you open the door to the possibility of discovering your happiest and most thriving self. Full self-acceptance is the secret to not only change, but peace.
