Everyone defines "superhero" differently. Some people may instantly think of Batman or Superman while some people's first instinct is to think of a real person in their day to day life. Either way, everyone needs a superhero. Everyone needs a hero to look up to.
I always swore I would never love comics, superheros, comic con's, etc. But after fighting it off for so long, I caved. I fell in love with Arrow and The Flash and, once I started binge watching, there was no turning back. In just over a month, I've been to two Con's and I'm excitedly planning my next. As a matter of fact, I'm writing this after a long day at Boston Comic Con with another long day ahead of me tomorrow.
But it's a thrill. Every moment here is better than the last. I'm surrounded by all these people who share this love for certain heroes, all for different reasons. We may all love the same character, but it's for a million different reasons.
There aren't enough words to really explain the way these superheroes have found a way to hit home for so many people. For me, these two heroes helped me come to terms with so many things that have happened in my life. There are so many things I've always wanted answers to, but The Flash and Arrow together have somehow found a way to tell me exactly what I need to hear.
Everyone needs a hero. Everyone needs that one person, that one show, that one moment they can turn to and feel true happiness. Even if it's just an hour escape every week from the hectic every day life, we all need a hero.
My superheroes aren't just those two main characters. They come in the form of sidekicks and IT girls who somehow manage to make me feel something.
Being at Comic Con has only further proven just how important these heroes are. I wish everyone could see how many young kids walk around dressed as their favorite superhero. I wish everyone could see how many young girls have characters to dress up as because so many important female characters have been born from comics.
To be surrounded by people who have the same love and passion for this "nerdy" hobby is incredible. I've met people from all over the United States who are here just for this weekend.
I've been lucky enough to meet most of my superheroes and I can look back on those moments and those conversations with nothing but pure bliss. Whenever I'm stressed or having a bad day, I have these moments to think back on and I'm overcome with happiness and filled with inspiration to power through.
One of my friend's heroes told her today, "You may think I got you through this, but it's you. You're a lot stronger than you think."
Sometimes we just need a little reassurance. And sometimes, we just need our hero.
