If You're The Girl Who's Constantly Sick, Here Are 5 Essentials For You

In This Article:

If you're like the majority of the population, you have allergies to pretty much every substance at every time of year. You've experienced that ghost cough — the one that travels around your friend group for a couple of months. A stuffy nose that won't go away for weeks. Or, itchy eyes that seem to last an eternity. From my years of being that sick girl, I've compiled my most essential items, and I hope at least one could help you.

Humidifier

Even the smallest one will make a difference. During allergy season the air dries up, making it hard for the sick to breathe. Personally, I have asthma, so I use my humidifier every chance I get even when I'm not sick. Your lungs and throat will thank you if you add a humidifier to your nightly routine.

Vitamin C supplements

Whether it's pills or cough drops, Vitamin C is key for keeping your immune system in tip-top shape. Growing up, my parents always told me the orange gummies would kill me if I ate too many but, being in college, I've learned that the limit of those things does not exist. Pound them down and your body will thank you later.

Delsym Cough Syrup

A secret from my grandma and a savior when I lived in a quad bedroom in the sorority house. This magic elixir will completely cut out your cough for a solid 12 hours. It's the non-drowsy formula and tolerable taste make it perfect for a swig once you get up in the morning and before you go to bed at night. This cough syrup has most definitely cured my bronchitis multiple times.

Allegra

Going off the same platform as Delsym, I've tried all the allergy medicine, but this works the best for me and my friends who are constantly under the weather. This happy little pill cures itchy eyes, runny noses, sore throats — you name it. It works hard and plays harder.

SLEEP!

Sneezing season and finals season tend to happen around the same time every year. You need to remember to take care of yourself and that's how you'll stay the healthiest. Sleep is the best way to cure all the body's ailments and illnesses.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
