Life is stressful. As human beings of this generation, we often times commit to more than we can handle. Since we have so many choices, the burden of it can add quite a load onto our mental health. Also, controlling all aspects of your life can even intensify the effects of our choices. What do we do in those situations? How are we asked to do so much, but feel that we have accomplished very little?

We often times do not admit it to ourselves, yet going with the flow and not controlling every aspect of our life can facilitate success. Here are some tips you can use to regain some strength in your life.

1. Learn how to say “NO”.

This is hard for people who love to commit; however, it is necessary to do. We are expected to accomplish a lot, but that can never be possible, if you do not take some time for yourself. I definitely felt that I was juggling too much last year, and it later became a bit deleterious for my mental health. This year, instead of getting too involved, I have kept a balance between my priorities and my desires. In order to reach this balance, I did have to refuse many aspects of my life.

2. Do not be afraid of failure.

You all have definitely heard the statement, “Failure is the pillar of success.” We are all so afraid of this term, and I understand why; nonetheless, this will be recurring part of our life. Instead of letting it crush you, really learn from it. Sometimes we tend to think that we failed because of our own weaknesses, but that is not always the case. I know it is difficult to move on from mistakes, yet you have treat them objectively. Make them, learn from them, and move on.

3. Do something for yourself.

We often times do disregard it importance; however, trust that this is vital to fill your personal void. Going with the flow can mean either enjoying what you love to do or trying something that will get you out of your comfort zone. Do not overthink your happiness. Your happiness and mental health should never be a trade-off. Go out for a run, or do some boxing or painting, or maybe even writing for the Odyssey!

4. Find your own pace and rhythm

This seems like a strange piece of advice, since it is an abstract one; nevertheless, it is incredibly important. Our personal pace does not match up with everyone else’s or everything else around us. Sometimes, it may actually feel like our world is moving faster than we are. You should never feel different about this, because we do have our own pace. It is just a matter of figuring out what that is and going along with it. Sometimes when we try to go faster than we can handle, it may cause more problems in our personal life. This is something I try to work with on a daily basis. If you know your pace, you can definitely finish the race.

5. Invite Change

If you are control freak like me, you know that whenever things do not go your way, you feel perplexed. Especially during your more youthful years, everything will change, sometimes gradually and other times sporadically. If you do not invite change in your life, it will definitely be difficult for you to continue with your life. It is definitely good to have expectations, though acknowledge that expectations are not always fulfilled.

If I followed this advice, I would definitely be in a better place now, yet it is also important to highlight these aspects of your life. You are not a super being, you are a human being. Some of you may also be control freaks, but life as you know is not simple; let it dictate you from time to time and just let go.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
