Most people enjoy quality time with their significant other, friends, family members, or even the entertaining co-worker. However, as time has progressed, I have learned that there is a sense of peace in spending time alone. A famous poet once said, "Some journeys in life are better traveled alone."
Over time, I've come to understand that to truly get oneself in an appropriate state, you must separate yourself from things or people that can cause you to revert to certain behaviors. This could be excessive drinking to cope with internal anguish or impulsive decision making that often leads to negative results. In this process, it is not always necessary to cut these beings off entirely. Rather, learn what areas to emotionally invest your times and efforts into.
Another comfort that can come from finding solitude within the alone time is a sense of understanding about who you truly are from an internal perspective. When you begin to invest time or even remain in the presence of certain things or individuals, it may be hard to recognize the emotional impact that they have on you. When you spend time alone, the toxic traits that you have and have picked up are easier to recognize.
The process of achieving solitude and comfort in being by yourself is not always easy, but it is beneficial. The consistent self-doubt and desire to compare yourself to those around you are not able to have a significantly large amount of power over you. Rather, you will be able to meet these challenges head-on with an exceptionally positive spirit.
One thing remains true: No matter who comes and goes, you always have you. Dare to take that desired dream vacation to the Bahamas by yourself. Find comfort in drinking a warm vanilla latte by your lonesome in your favorite coffee shop. You are and should always remain your biggest fan no matter what energy surrounds you.
