Writing is my favorite artistic expression. It's the one art that allows me to truly portray the person I am, as it is for many people. I'm a rather serious writer which comes with over-intellectualizing my and all writing styles. While it can be a gift, it can also be a curse as you get irritated easily by other's writing. And result in many self conscious and annoyed with you. I'm sure my fellow passionate writers understand.
1. When people your own age don't know how to use proper forms of: they're, their, there. you're, your. than, then. to, two, too.
If you made it out of high school, you should have the ability to know the correct meaning of each. If you do not, I strongly suggest you read up on that because it's pretty vital to know for any career path that you take. That little difference can indicate your level of education to some people. Unfortunately, for us "grammar nazis/police," that we're occasionally referred to as, we cringe and heat up due to people's lack of awareness of the difference.
2. The absence of periods where they should be. For example, "Im so thankful for my family because they always support me they are so fun and outgoing I don't know what I do without them."
No, it hurts! So you're telling us that if you were speaking this, you would say all of that in one breath, without any pause? If you do, you should probably stop. Your audience is most likely confused and wants to walk away. Periods exist for a reason... utilize them! I guarantee you that if you haven't been using them and you start now, you will be taken more seriously.
3. Scrolling through social networks and seeing poor grammar, spelling, punctuation, especially from people more or less your age.
It practically hurts our critical writing souls to see our language skills dying out. We feel so strongly about correct usage and we so badly want everyone to feel the same way. It depresses us that they are just going through life with poor English skills and nobody's helping them improve. Or that they don't even mind having such poor English skills living in such a competitive world. How do you expect to get anywhere? How did you even make it out of the school systems with writing skills up to par with the rest of the world?? Did you not care enough or did the school systems not do their job??
Ugh, the anger... not only at the people's writing, but the probable insufficient focus of vital matters in school systems nowadays.
4. Lastly, pissing everyone off with our critiquing. People won't ask for it, nor want it a lot of the times.
Everyone believes they're capable of writing well on their own, which they are most of the time. However, we still feel the need to correct them on most occasions where they don't write something right. This results in hostility towards us majority of the time when it comes to the topic. We just wish everyone was a grammar police like ourselves so that we wouldn't have to be referred to as "grammar police." Everyone should care as much as we do, right!? ...Right?
