As time flies, so does the semester and our grades.

As Thanksgiving break creeps up on us, so does the end of the semester. Finals are approaching and classes seem to be getting harder. All we can think about is being home and reunited with our families during the most wonderful time of the year. It is so close we can almost taste the turkey and Christmas cookies. We are at the point of giving up. But we can't. We are so close! We can do this.

Here are some tips on how to push through the rest of the semester and make it to the home stretch of Christmas cookies:

1. Keep going to class.

This may seem dumb, but I can even attest to being so lazy that I stop attending class at the end of the semester. You just feel so drained and unmotivated, but we must power through. These classes are the most important ones to be attending as they are giving crucial information for finals!

2. Treat yourself with breaks.

Don't stop studying now! Set study times for yourself and include breaks in them. Managing your study time will make it seem less of a burden and you'll be more motivated to study to reach the break. Working in breaks is the most successful study tactic, and it still gives you free time to lounge around and be lazy.

3. Sleep!

Get your rest. You will be happier and more energized by getting as much sleep as you can. I know it's difficult to find time to sleep, but it is not impossible. Like scheduling your breaks, schedule in naps or even your sleep time. Make sure you have work done by a certain time so it gives you extra sleep time.

4. Go out.

You will miss going out with your friends over break, and it is a good way to de-stress. It is important to have a little you time and it will make you forget about everything you have to do. You'll feel like it's still the middle of the semester and get excited to be at school and want to do things. It's okay to make time for yourself and still have fun at the end of the semester.

5. Remember why you are here.

You're at college for the best four years of your life and to get a degree. Some of us will have make it or break it grades with finals, and we need to focus. Keep thinking of goals you set for your future and accomplish them. Don't let Christmas and Thanksgiving coming ruin what you are determined to do. They are amazing holidays, but after all the hard work they will be even more rewarding breaks in the end.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
