Empire of the Sun is an electronic music due from Sydney Australia. Their albums take us on unique journeys that embrace imagination. The group takes it to the next level with their innovative stage presence, incredible head where and energetic stage persona. Their music really is a journey, a story that the group visualizes taking the audience to alternative worlds with new ideas. Australia’s larger than life glam duo took their work to a world stage and made their mark with their obvious hit album “Walking on a Dream” which can be described as a “spiritual road movie."
After their first album, the duo spent some time touring and after taking a break they came back together to create their sophomore album, Ice on the Dune. For me personally this was my favorite album mainly because of the reoccurring theme of distance. This is what the group focused on for much of the album in such songs like my personal favorite “I’ll Be Around." Empire of the sun conveyed a message that even when your far apart for example how they were with their families or people you love there is always a certain force there that is keeping you together. The album mixes in various elements of Eurodance, synthpop and glam rock with some of the albums hits like “Alive”, “Celebrate” and “DNA” which are very upbeat and innovative pieces.
But the real excitement is still coming, at least from what I see. Empire of the Sun is set to release their new album this October 2016 titled Two Vines. So what’s so unique about this album? Well for starters the artists who are collaborating! Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Wendy Melvoin from Prince and the Revolution. There single “High and Low” leads the albums tracks. The duo said that living and recording in Hawaii was the main catalyst for the theme of the album. The album is almost a story book of a city that is taken over by the jungle, almost like mother nature bringing everything back again and an idea of how nature brings beauty back into our lives. Ultimately the band thank Hawaii for the inspiration on this album set to be released in October.
