We all know parents that embarrass their children for fun or just by being themselves. If they are your parents, then, you might not think they're the funniest people ever.
I'll never forget the time I was about nine years old and my mom and I were at the mall walking into J.C. Penney and she started making dolphin noises. My mom is really good at them. When people started looking at our general direction or at us, my mom said, "Elena! Why are you being so loud?! Stop making dolphin noises!" I was so embarrassed. I'm over it now and laugh every time I remember that moment.
Here are some of the reasons why we should love our embarrassing parents:
If they say something embarrassing that you don't want your friends to know, they probably didn't mean it/it's something silly you shouldn't be embarrassed about.
Parents are parents and sometimes they share old pictures of your awkward stage in life on Facebook. The bad part comes when they tag you in the picture so all of your friends see it.
There's a picture up in my house for everyone to see of me naked playing with a hose. I think I'm two years old in the picture, but I'm glad that if anyone sees the picture, they can't really see anything I don't want people to see.
That moment when your parent comes to visit you, walks in your dorm, and starts cleaning up your mess.
This happens ALL THE TIME with my mother. I don't think I'm that messy, but my mom goes insane whenever she comes visit me. I will never forget one instance my sophomore year of college when she came to visit me, I didn't clean my room (neither did my roommate), and my mother started picking things up from the floor. I had to text my roommate and tell her that my mom folded some of her blankets that she left on the floor. Yeah, it's embarrassing, but she's doing something I don't enjoy doing for me.
If your friends are friends with your parents on Facebook, they'll see the silly stuff they post and tell you about it.
Most of my best friends are friends with my mom on Facebook. Sometimes they show me what she posted on Facebook before I see it. My mom can be funny sometimes.
They always have their camera ready when big moments happen.
If you look at the pictures my mom took the first time I went to Disney, you can see that during the first part of the trip I looked really happy and by the end I looked tired of my mom taking pictures.
Here's an example of my brother and I already DONE with our mother taking pictures every 10 minutes.
There are many more reasons why we should love our embarrassing parents.
I'm so thankful to have a mom that always comments on my pictures on Facebook, favorites my tweets even if she doesn't know what I'm talking about, has a picture of me naked when I was two-years old up at our place.
I have learned to not care what others think of me and to not be afraid to be myself thanks to my mother.
Embrace your silly parents and love them with all of your heart.
