I am petrified for election day, as are many Americans and especially Millennials. The day is fast approaching when we all must make a very difficult decision and I am still very torn as to what I should do. As a United States citizen, I am embarrassed by this election to a very extreme extent. It has been nothing but name calling and red herring for the past year. I have watched all of the Presidential debates and even the Vice Presidential debate and I am still very confused on who I should vote for. Neither candidate is actually fit to run a country and they have solidified this by their actions during debates and during the campaigning process in general. I have actually refused to tell people who I am considering voting for because it seems that people are taking this election so personally.
Horrible things have been done by each candidate, horrible things have been done to each candidate. While I fervently hate Donald Trump (I always have because he always seemed like a huge joke to me), I do not think Hilary Clinton is a good choice either. So here is the moral dilemma many are facing, do I vote for who actually would make a good president knowing that none of the other candidates have any chance of actually winning? Or do I vote for the lesser of the two evils?
I have never voted before, but I realized that it was so important this year considering that decisions made now, could potentially have an effect on my future and my life. I am 24 years old and it is important that I become more involved in the world around me. People like to stereotype my generation saying that we are lazy, want handouts, and are too obsessed with our technology to have a grasp on the real world. None of this is true at all, but Millennials find themselves as adults in a very different word than our parents had. So many of my peers do not want to vote because we are sick of the electoral college. It is a faulty system that needs to be reformed and improved. Many feel that votes hardly count at all, and I am one of those individuals. However, here I am still experiencing inner turmoil over this moral decision.
One thing is certain, I will not walk away from the polls in a good mood. I will not feel good about my vote. There is a good chance I will be haunted by my decision for the rest of my life, and that is terrifying. One thing is certain, the next four years will be interesting additions to the history books. Good luck out there my fellow voters, make the decision that allows you to sleep at night, and please stop judging others for their choices. It is everyone's right to vote, but there is no reason to shame people for the candidate that they choose.
