Halloween may only be one day, but it's celebrated most - if not all of - October. Halloween holds so much wonder and fun, it's an awesome holiday for both kids and adults. Where I'm from, Halloween starts and ends with the sounding of sirens all over the city. Those two sirens mark the beginning and end of one of the most magical nights of the year. Since Halloween is one of my personal favorite holidays, I'm here to share eight reasons why Halloween is epic!
1. It's Magical
For kids (and some adults) it's a night to get dressed up and be someone you're not. Whether you're a superhero, a princess, a fairy, a monster, or a TV character, it can make for a magical night. There's also that tiny part of you that believes in the magic they talk about in the movies.
2. CANDY.
Enough said. But really - whether you like gummy or hard, sour or sweet, or just plain chocolate, there's no shortage of candy on this sugar-fueled night. Remember when you and your friends and/or siblings would trade candy after a long night of trick or treating? Oh, those were the days ...
3. Bonfires
Ah, the cool breeze and the warmth from the fire. The scent of the smoke on your clothes the next day. And of course - s'mores! Bonfires are good for both jokes and laughter as well as some deep conversations.
4. Carving pumpkins
Making Jack O Lanterns may seem laborious or gross, but it's actually a really fun and easy way to show your Halloween spirit and exercise your creativity. And you don't really have to carve anything! Painting a pumpkin can be just as much fun, but without the knives or gooey pumpkin guts. And you can use glitter!
5. The variety
You could go to a Halloween party, go trick or treating (if you're young enough or have kids with you), attend a haunted house, or just hang out with a few friends. There's something for everyone!
6. The movies
Channels like ABC Family and Disney start showing their Halloween favorites, like "Hocus Pocus" and "Halloweentown" around mid-October - a perfect way to de-stress after midterms!
7. The costumes
While some costumes may be scary or simply lame, there are always a few people that go way over the top, and we salute you. Also, there's the adorable kids and dogs dressed up as everything from princesses to a pop culture reference they can't possibly understand. Lookin' at you all.
8. The memories
Every year, you add new memories to look back on year after year later. Halloween is a holiday most often spent with friends, which is a great recipe for laughter and happy memories
