8 Life Lessons You Learned From Mr. Feeny

All throughout high school, I watched shows like "Full House", "Saved By The Bell", and "Boy Meets World". They each had their share of life lessons that you could learn from watching them. One of my favorite characters was Mr. Feeny. He was the wise teacher who knew exactly what to say and how to say it. He also said of lot of things about life that we have realized is important.

8. "We live in a RANDOM and CHAOTIC universe".

Life can be so random and crazy at times that we lose track of what we are doing and why we are doing it. The world around us is changing so fast that it feels like we are just standing there watching it move around us like time has stopped- yet everything around us changes. We could be doing one thing and then all of a sudden we drop whatever we are doing and do something else. Things are happening around the world that are so crazy and unreal.

7. "A SURE thing is not the BEST thing".

If something seems like a sure thing or like it is meant to be, then it may not be the best thing. If something seems like it is going right and you feel good about it, it may not be right in all reality. Don't go for the sure thing -- instead go for something that you are unsure about and do the best you can.

6. "A REAL HERO is someone who does the RIGHT thing when the RIGHT thing to do isn't the easy thing to do"

The soldiers that serve our country are heroes because defending our freedom is the right thing to do, but it isn't the easy thing to do. They leave behind their family, friends, and loved ones in order to protect and serve our country. We should thank them more often, because that isn't an easy thing to do.

5. "When you find LOVE, you hold onto it and CHERISH it, because there is nothing finer and it may never come again".

Love is something really amazing when you find that special someone. Everyone is looking for that person and it is hard to find them and keep them. Love is definitely hard to understand, but when you find love you feel really happy and you don't want it to come crashing down on you. You have to cherish what you have and who you share it with, because if you don't then you may never find love again.

4. "Sometimes the things you COMPLAIN the most about are the things you CARE most about".

Every day we complain about things. Sometimes it's silly things like doing the laundry or the doing the dishes, but most of the time we complain about stuff going on around us or things going on in our daily lives. Those are the things we care most about. It could be our beliefs or our friends and family, but we will care most about those things above anything else.

3. "If you let people's perception of you dictate your behavior, you will NEVER grow us a person".

People like to talk about us and say things about us, but we can't let the things said about us affect how we act or what we do. If someone says we are lazy and we act lazy, because they said that then it does nothing for our growth. Instead, we have to ignore what they say and prove them wrong, so that we can grow as a person.

2. "Unfortunately, we live in a SOCIETY where they tell us we have to look a certain way, so we're all under pressure to live up to unrealistic expectations".

This is probably the most eye opening thing about the world we live in today. We have to dress a certain way, act a certain way, think a certain way in order to be anything in life. That is probably the most ridiculous thing ever, because the media tells us all that women have to be skinny to be successful, when that isn't true. They tell us we have to think more like presidential candidates and that we all have to act the same. The media needs a wake up call, because everyone is different and always will be.

1. "Believe in yourselves" "DREAM" "TRY" "Do GOOD"

This is probably the most important thing that Mr. Feeny has taught me. You have to believe in yourself and believe that you can do anything that you set your mind to. Reach for the stars and do what you dream of doing. Try the hardest and best you can and if you do that, you will be successful. Never give up on anything you do or on yourself. You are your biggest critic, so don't get yourself down.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
