Eight Best Things About Fall!

In case you weren't already aware

Eight Best Things About Fall!

If you’re from New York, or any of the surrounding cities, you know that Fall is some 3-month long period that really only actually lasts about two weeks. The first few weeks of fall are an extension of Summer, and the next few weeks are filled with a ridiculous amount of rainfall - who even allowed this? When the Fall we know and love finally comes around, it needs to be savored before all the fleeting moments have passed. So, without further ado, here are the things I’ll be appreciating most this year.

1. Dark nail polish/lipstick

This one is a given. I know it technically isn’t a rule that you can’t wear dark polish/lipstick colors throughout the Summer, but it’s extra rewarding when you can paint on that first deep berry lip, or deep forest green polish, and know that it won’t be replaced by something brighter in the near future.

2. Pretty colors

Fall has its own, unforgettable, untouchable color scheme. It's that perfect time period before all the leaves fall off of the trees and they become naked and obviously deciduous for the next incredibly long number of months. For those few short weeks of true Fall, I truly appreciate the leaves in all of their beautiful colors because I know I won’t be seeing them for a long time thereafter.

3. Soup

I don’t know about anyone else, but I genuinely enjoy eating soup once the weather cools down a bit. Soup is one of my biggest comfort foods, and I have to give it up all Summer because who can eat hot soup in 90-degree weather?

4. Hot coffee

After months and months of drinking iced coffee, I miss my real lattes with steamed milk and variety of flavors. Pumpkin isn’t going to get its own category here but I can’t dismiss my love for it. A nice hot pumpkin spice latte is incredibly appreciated in the fall.

5. Cuddling up under the covers

I’m a sucker for Saturday afternoons spent watching a movie under the covers. In the Summer, it isn’t really warranted due to the heat, and it can’t truly be appreciated. The fall brings us into a cuddling season of sorts, and I would be lying if I didn’t say it was one of my favorite things about this season.

6. Scarves

Fall is the perfect season for scarves because it allows us to get another layer of clothing, without freezing or sweating to death. Plus, scarves are one of the cutest accessories in my opinion, and something you can style in so many ways.

7. Comfort food

Other than soup, there are a few other foods that come into play as we transition into fall. Pumpkin-spiced everything, butternut squash, a freshly baked turkey, hot mashed potatoes, the list goes on and on!

8. Apple picking

I know that this one is overrated, and everyone talks about it, but that doesn’t make it less fun. Apple picking is a great way to get the family together and involved, and it’s actually a really fun and super adorable way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
