The Effects Of Alcohol

Going to parties and drinking alcohol is like a must in college, right?

Drinking alcohol might seem fun at first, but it can ultimately change your life in minutes if you’re not responsible. Alcohol is known as a depressant, and if you’ve ever drank any, you would think otherwise because it makes you feel good at the time being. This good feeling only lasts for a while though and later on you may be regretting your decision to drink.

Drinking alcohol has many different stages: that sense of being tipsy but not quite there, being tipsy, borderline drunk, drunk, and hitting that blackout stage are just a few phases that exist. Being that in between tipsy and sober stage may make you feel powerful. You might think it is okay to text a friend who has been treating you wrong and tell them off, or maybe text that ex you’ve wanted back for a while even though they don’t deserve you, but these quick decisions under the influence of alcohol can make you regret the decision after it is too late.

Once that tipsy stage is gone you can reach the full on drunk stage where you might feel great and like you can do anything in the world, even jumping off a building, though you should never jump off buildings. Alcohol has such a large effect on each individual that once you hit that drunk stage, you could pronounce things that you would never say sober or even do things that you normally would not do because once the alcohol takes effect of your brain you really lose all control.

The worst stage is the blackout stage. Often times this can lead to people leaving parties early because you were the one to stop it by not drinking responsibly. The blackout stage you cannot remember a thing and often times you probably weren’t even conscious at all and people were probably taking care of you. Being in this blackout stage means that you can die or be physically injured to where your friends have no choice but to take you into the hospital. You wouldn’t want this sober so why go as far as being blacked out?

Alcohol and parties may seem like they go together, but you don’t need alcohol to have a good time. It might give you that little confidence to dance around a bunch of strangers but if you’re with friends that could be confidence enough. These effects may not seem real to you because it’s never happened to you personally, but there’s a first time for everything.

If you plan on drinking, drink responsibly. There should always be moderation when you drink, and eating and drinking water in between each alcoholic drink isn’t a bad decision because it can make you feel better at the end of the night.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
