12 Places You Can Eat On The Corner With A Budget

The Corner is more than just an iconic spot at UVA. It's a stretch of endless opportunity for fine dining, a convenient, fun fix for Newcomb's questionable stir fry and spending the last of your plus dollars on sushi (for the fifth time in a week). It offers restaurants for any taste, a chance to (barely) step off Grounds with some friends for a relaxing meal and procrastination on homework. But the only downside? Real money. If you're like me and feel physical pain for your bank account every time you have to swipe your debit card, here are some ~delicious~ options and specials at your favorite Corner places to get when you want to eat out without destroying your savings.

1. Boylan

Stop by on Sunday after 5 for $5 cheeseburgers and deals on mimosa pitchers ($12 for the first, $1 for the rest after that). If you want to come during the week, Boylan has a delicious half-size Spanish Club salad loaded with avocado, bacon, and cheese for just $5.

2. Basil

For all fans of Mediterranean food, Basil has plenty of specials during the week. Pasta Monday features any pasta entree, a side salad, and a slice of cheesecake for $15. Friday offers wine tastings of 4 reds or 4 whites for $12. Or get a bowl of soup and a baguette for $6.

3. Cafe Caturra

If you're craving classy seafood, stop by on Monday for $10 mussels after 6:30 pm. Tuesday is Ladies Night, so for $7 you can pick 2 Charcuterie boards with wine and drink specials. Soup and bread is just $5.50 every day.

4. Eddy's

What's better than $5 apps on Tuesday and a Southwest wrap for just $7? Or come for brunch and get a $6 breakfast sandwich. YUM.

5. FIG

Everyone rushes to Bilt on Thursdays for Survivor Hour, but FIG offers the same deals with less crowds. You can also get a 3-course dinner on Thursdays for $15, $3 Sangria on Fridays, and $2 mimosas for weekend brunch. Also, order their hummus and pita app for your meal -- it's filling, delicious, and only $6.

6. Michael's Bistro

Michael's is often forgotten about, but you can't miss the $16 variety beer bucket on Mondays, $4.25 bowls of soup, and inexpensive sandwiches.

7. Trinity

$3 cheeseburgers and $5 spinach and artichoke dip on Thursdays?! And a pound of wings with a stein of Coors Light for only $6 on Sundays? Bless up.

8. The Virginian

Salads can be as low as $7 here, and they offer $2 rails on Thursdays after 7 pm. But you really can't come to Virg without getting their famous mac and cheese, impossible to pass up with a $5 app size portion.

9. College Inn

Also often overlooked, College Inn has low prices for great food. Sandwiches are under $6, and you can get sides of spaghetti, fries, or meatballs for under $3. Plus, cheesy bread. Duh.

10. Biltmore

Besides their famous Survivor Hour on Thursdays, Bilt offers $5 pepperoni or cheese crusties on Mondays and $8 salads on Wednesdays. Sit outside in these last few weeks of warm weather at their awesome patio and enjoy.

11. Crozet

If you're craving pizza, come on Wednesdays after 5 pm, where the time is the price you pay for a small pizza. Or take advantage of Two for Tuesday: buy one large pie and get the second half off. Plus $1 Fresh Zens on Tuesdays!

12. Bodo's

And, of course, the ultimate cheap eating option. Get a dozen bagels for 70 cents/bagel for your next two weeks of breakfasts, or pretty much any sandwich combo for under $4.

The Corner has arguably some of the best restaurants in Cville, and you really don't need to break the bank to enjoy some of this awesome food. Who needs a meal plan anyway?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
