Monday, April 19, 2016. A day that will forever live on to the students of West Virginia University as The Day the Ducks Died.
For the sake of trying to cause less harm to the girl, I won't use her real name or any pictures of her. For the purpose of the article, I will refer to the girl as Sam.
Now on to the story. Sam was the proud owner of two little ducks named Goose and Maverick she bought from a pet shop in Morgantown called Animal House. This pet shop is well-known to students for renting out ducks for a week or two.
On April 19, the warm weather had finally come to stay at WVU, and our students did what we do best to celebrate: throw a block party. However, the events that transpired during this party have haunted the campus for the last three days.
Around 4 p.m Sam and her friends had the brilliant idea to add something new onto their grill: her pet ducks.
Now I am fully aware that people eat ducks all the time and they are one of many animals raised for meat. I've had duck before, it was pretty good. However, these were her pet ducks. She was seen walking them on leashes around campus multiple times and treated them as good as a person could. Well, she did until she fried them up at a party.
Here you can see her and a helper cleaning the ducks for the grill. Maybe one of the most messed up things about this to me is that they used a machete to cut off the ducks heads on a wooden stump in front of a bunch of people. (Warning for the next picture: It's not pretty.)
Now it may just be me, but I feel that this was totally uncalled for. Also, what college kid just has a machete laying around and thinks duck decapitation at a party is a good idea? But, that's just my opinion.
Compare the two pictures above. Both are from Sam's Twitter account. Now tell me, how can a person hold their pet ducks to the same level as a pet dog and bad mouth other people who commit animal abuse, but goes and kills and grills her ducks 10 days laters!?
Students and faculty all over WVU's campus have been up in arms over the duck murders and there is no end in sight. People have posted endless Facebook rants about it, and some students even took it as far as to report her to PETA and the university itself.
Since the event has gone public, Sam has set all of her social media accounts to private, and I can't say I blame her. However, I absolutely agree that she deserves everything that is happening to her. Let's be real here for a second, you don't just murder two innocent little ducks for fun and expect everyone to be cool with it.
LOOK HOW CUTE THEY WERE:
P.S. If you'd like to know how Sam is handling all of her fame, her roommate has said she is leaving town and switching schools.
