A War Zone In America

War is a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state. These types of conflicts generally result in many dead or seriously injured. I have never agreed with the concept of war. Since childhood, I have been a strong believer that there is always a better way to resolve issues than to resort to violence. The reason for that is because a lot of times violence never rids the problem. In most cases it either escalates the issue or does nothing to solve it at all. America has one of the most advanced military programs in the world. As a natural born American I do find this fact comforting, yet I still can’t stomach the idea of it.

This past week North Korea declared war on the United States. Apparently, “The United States has crossed the red line in their showdown.” North Korea feels threatened and is under the impression that the regularly joint military exercises include training that prepares troops for the invasion of their capital. To make matters worse, the believe that the attack is aimed at their top leaders. Personally, I am in shock. I just can’t understand why the leaders of the world believe that war is the answer to everyone.

The sad part about war is that so many innocent people are affected. The old and the young suffer the consequences of such destructive acts. My heart breaks at the realization of these sorts of tragedies. I dream of a world without violence and a human race engulfed with love. We are divided by continents, skin color, and status. What sadistic human being began the tradition of hate? And who will stand by my side and fight against the norm? Change is a constant. For that reason, I know change in the way we need is possible.

I pray that one day we can all understand the importance of perspective. I hope that no matter what walk of life someone may lead that we abandon all judgment. I am aware that seeing eye to eye is unrealistic in many cases. But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t agree to disagree. Fear captures my soul in times like these. So often I wonder if I’m the only one concerned. I worry about the future of our world. Too many people live careless to issues that we should address head on. What scares me the most is that a lot of us don’t even truly realize what’s going on. Or perhaps we choose to be blind to these harsh realities.

All I know is, brighter days are coming. I feel it deep down in my heart and soul that one day the world will be as close to peace and harmony as we can get. I may not live to see the day, but in my days here I will make an effort every day of my life to help us reach that goal. The human race is amazing and we are capable of so much more than we could ever imagine. As a species, we can accomplish miraculous things and I believe that we will. It just requires us to truly come together, and I know we can.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
