Don’t be afraid to dream big. I love the saying that it only takes 30 seconds of courage to do anything. I don’t want to grow up and wish I ‘d done something different. Maybe I’ll wish I would’ve taken more risks, called more shots, enjoyed the moment a little more. I am inspired by the idea of those 30 seconds of courage. If for 30 seconds you can say, “I’m going to do this,” imagine the possibilities.
Once I was about to zip line across a lake and I didn’t want to make the initial jump. I was afraid. I was already strapped in and I was to jump on the count of three. At the number three I jumped. It was a moment of ecstasy--a moment when reality seemed distant. I jumped and I flew through the air. I was OK! Can you believe that? I had to have three months of courage when I decided to go to Haiti. Three months of saying yes to a crazy idea of leaving the county. I didn’t even leave the house when I was younger. I had courage and I don’t regret even an ounce of that courage. I was made new in that courage. I have always been so terrified of change and dreaming big. I wanted to just be comfortable in life. If I could be comfortable then I would be OK. I was OK with thinking that I may live at home the rest of my life with my mom and my dog.
I have now come accustom to the feeling of courage. I am better because of it. I don’t feel nervous anymore. I feel liberated. I have the world at my fingertips and I am young. I am in the prime time, location, and age of dreaming big. I urge you to dream big. Live your dreams. You don’t have to let them sit in your mind waiting anymore. You can unleash your dreams and pursue them. Pursue them hard and fiercely. Pursue them with all of your might because nobody can stop you from having dreams. You’re free to dream and free to explore those dreams. Even if they don’t work out the way that you intended--at least you pursued it.
I followed my dream of working at a store that I thought would be great for me. It didn’t turn out quite the way I would have liked but I had the experience. I gained friendships and relationships and I learned how to be an adult in the world that had, for so long, seen me as a child. I was better. Life is crazy. Grab its reigns and go. Dream big, do big and be big. Impact this world because you have the ability to do so. Love hard, sleep hard, pursue hard. Dream big, my friends.
