I am writing this because right now I am exactly where you are. Drained. Exhausted. Over it. Basically all of the above and more. We have a little more than a month left of classes and I'm pretty sure it's going to be the longest month of our lives. This is the time when all of the semester-long papers that we've been procrastinating are due. When the grades we make on exams and quizzes actually matter because we have to make up for all of the D's and F's made at the beginning. Things start to get "real" and we're already swamped with millions of other things whether that's work, school or trying to make our significant others happy.
You know how in movies when people are dying and they're told to stay away from the light? Well, that was a pretty dramatic comparison but in this case you should definitely go towards that light. The light at the end of that tunnel is leading you to a summer long break or, if you're like me, graduation. Although for a lot of people it would make them less motivated I challenge you to use it as fuel to your fire to finish off the year strong. Here are a couple of other things that you should remember in order to stay sane...
Sleep. If you're anything like me, you can ignore this first point. No matter what is due the next day, I never ever compromise my sleep schedule. However, that's not the case for a lot of college students. Although you may feel that getting the last four pages of your paper done and pulling an all nighter is the most important thing, you are all the way wrong. Your body needs sleep in order to function. Don't deprive it.
Hydration. Drink lots and lots and lots of water. I am definitely being a hypocrite as I'm typing this with a dry mouth, but keeping your body hydrated is key to staying energized and keeping a clear head during this last month.
It's not the end of the world. So what if you got a C on your Liberal Studies paper? Life goes on. It definitely sucks but you live and you learn. Make an appointment with your professor if you're feeling extra motivated to ensure you don't make the same mistakes again. Or don't. Whatever you do, just remember when you're at an interview years (or months) from now, no one is going to care about that one C you made during your final semester of college.
Live a little. Yes, you want to end your semester on a high note. But don't forget to have fun while you're at it. Go hard in the library all week so that you won't feel guilty going out on Friday and Saturday night. If you want to have fun, I'm all for it. Just make sure that you find your balance.
One day you're going to look back and realize that this exhaustion you're feeling right now is nothing. You're going to be stuck at work for hours at a time and wish that you could go back to studying for exams instead of paying bills. So just sit back, relax, and enjoy being a drained college student while you still can.
