Dorm Life

At first, living away from home may seem completely absurd because it means you are leaving all that you are familiar with for a new life in a new environment with people who you do not know. At first, it may it may be a bit nerve-racking because you don't know what to expect when you get there.

Let me talk to you about my personal experience of living in a dorm in college a thousand miles away from home.

The big day is here, the day I will move into Emory & Henry college, my level of excitement and of anxiety was literally hitting the roof. The journey of a thousand miles sits before me once again, a whole new experience that would either make or break me. All my hard work from high school led to this very moment in my life.

The move in day atmosphere was filled with a powerful sense of elation. Every new freshman was in the process of settling into their new home for the next four years. For some, it was their very first day living away from home and for others, they were used to it. Some were in a sorrowful mood and others were in a state of excitement. As time ticked by moving in day slowly coming to an end. The last hugs and kisses were given, and the parents left. Now, the real deal officially began.

As everybody was getting to know each other, a sense of calmness floored the air at Emory & Henry college. The unknown, soon became the known. As classes began and the stress of college finally started to set in, I found myself being helped by the kindest of souls all around me. You see, the connections and the friendships I was making were not at all temporary, they are permanent.

Each friend I have made in college is not only highly valuable to me, they are the kindest, loving, caring, funniest, blessed and coolest people I have ever met in my entire life. I am so glad that these friends and others are in my life. I have shared so far, the most memorable and unforgettable moments with these people and look forward to sharing many more moment with them.

You see, living on campus does not only give you a chance to grow and mature but, instead it gives you an opportunity to meet the most remarkable people you never thought of meeting in your entire life. They become your closest friends, as well as a close family member that you will always cherish for the rest of your life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
