In less than four months, many of us will be casting our vote for the next president. But with most of the population feeling defeated between having to vote for yet another corrupt politician (Clinton) or an over-the-top narcissist (Trump), it’s time to stop overlooking what’s right in front of us.
Many people seem to forget that the presidential election is not a race between just two people or just two political parties; we don’t only have two options.
Throughout the chaos that has ensued in the race to choose each party’s nominee, there has been one outlier that needs to be introduced: Gary Johnson. With 13 percent of votes already leaning in his favor, the possibility for Johnson to gain even more traction and potentially upset the race is appearing to be more and more possible with each move Clinton and Trump make.
For everyone looking for an alternative to the crook and the bully, here are some things you should know about Gary Johnson:
He is a reality.
If he gains 2 more percent of votes, making a total of 15 percent, he’ll get to participate in the debates against Clinton and Trump. Many people say that a third party candidate will never reach the level of publicity that one needs to win an election, but if given the chance to be up on the same stage as Clinton and Trump he could cause some serious upset.
He has the experience.
One thing that Donald Trump does not have is political experience, which is something that Johnson has plenty of. Having served two terms as the governor of New Mexico and running for president once before. He knows what he’s doing.
He used to be a Republican.
Now, this may not be a point to draw the votes of Democrats, but this is certainly something good for Republicans. However, when serving as the governor of New Mexico, Johnson was running an extremely Democratic state. His reasoning for this success? “I brought a brand of fiscal conservatism, together with respect for people with different lifestyles,” he wrote this week.
He means business.
The support surrounding Trump due to the fact that he is a business mogul is huge, but did you know that Johnson also has some serious business background? His junior year of college he started his own construction firm, which he later sold for $10 million.
He potentially may only need one state.
If no single candidate wins the majority of Electoral College votes, the House of Representatives will decide the election. Say Clinton and Trump were to split the electoral votes 50-50, which is something very possible considering how close the two lie in the polls. With just one state, the House may pick Johnson as a compromise due to both other candidates being widely unpopular.
He is a total badass.
Not necessarily related to politics, but definitely, boosts his like ability. He’s finished 75 triathlons and climbed Mount Everest. Oh, and by the way, when he climbed the Earth’s highest mountain he had a broken leg.
All in all, if you don’t feel confident supporting Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump you don’t have to settle.
