There are many aspects that you should consider before choosing a college or university to attend. Distance from family and number of students are just a few factors that are usually at the top of the list. One thing about schools that has a major impact on your overall experience but is often overlooked is the visual appeal of the campus. As a current student at a college with an above average appearance, I can tell you first hand how it is slowly, but surely, ruining my life.
There are always people taking pictures.
On your way to class or the dining hall you are guaranteed to pass at least two people that have cameras or phones out trying to capture the perfect shot. You laugh at them, at how "basic" they look trying to get a good Snapchat or Instagram post and swerve to avoid running into them. But next thing you know people are rerouting their tracks to avoid you as your phone captures the light cascading through the big tree outside your dorm.
You become insecure.
It's a hard life when your Sunday selfies dwindle to 20 likes on Instagram while the pictures you've posted of your campus break 100 within the first few hours of posting. Living at such a beautiful place really wears down the self-esteem, I mean it's not easy to hear how pretty the trees are or how lush and green the grass is every day. I'LL NEVER BE THAT LUSH MOM, SORRY I LET YOU DOWN.
You can't focus on anything while sitting by the windows.
People at subpar, boring old campuses don't have to think twice about where they sit in the library — how I long for that simplistic life. Instead, if you live on a more aesthetically pleasing campus, you know the struggle of keeping a tornado-safe distance away from the windows. Otherwise you fall prey to the enticing appeal of the outside and before you know it it's midnight and you have only the date and title of your paper written.
You'll leave early for class so you can enjoy the view.
Sleep is a sacred thing that all college students cherish. The walk to and from class is often so enjoyable and relaxing that you find yourself setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier than necessary just so you can take in every inch of your surroundings. Honestly what could be worse than waking up before you need to? You sell yourself short by depriving yourself of the z's you need to catch.
Seriously, nothing good comes from a beautiful campus.
