When I was a little girl and my momma would cook any kind of meat, I would always drench it in some sort of sauce. Steak sauce. Ketchup. Bbq. Ranch. Tartar sauce. Whatever, I didn’t care. I wouldn’t eat it without sauce. I just never liked the taste of it without it being covered.
As I got older, I realized that the only reason I put the sauce on it is actually because I never even liked the taste of meat. I only liked the sauce. So, I moved in with my aunt for a while who was a vegetarian. She didn’t buy meat very often so I stopped eating it. My life forever changed. This is when I decided to become a vegetarian.
It all began with me just not liking the taste, but as I got older I only discovered more reasons why I didn’t want to eat meat.
I think it is completely unnatural to want to eat an animal. The thought of eating something that was alive absolutely disgusts me. Animals have a heartbeat, a brain, blood, and organs. Animals have emotions just like we do. Not only do I find it unnatural, but I also find it heartless. Lots of people have pets like dogs or cats. Could you imagine just chopping up your dog or cat and eating it for dinner one night? Well, the same way that most people feel about that is how I feel about all animals. If you own a pet, it is obvious that is has emotions. There are many studies of animal psychology. All animals have emotions. The thought of killing it and eating it absolutely sickens me.
The way that a lot of animals are raised is cruel. Not only do they kill them, but often they are tortured and not taken care of properly while they are still alive. They are injected with tons of hormones to make them grow and become larger so that when they are killed, there is more meat on them. Often, they lay around in their own feces which is nothing but bacteria. Just because they are killed doesn’t mean you aren’t eating all that stuff.
I always get the typical questions and people always ask, “But what do you do for protein?” or “Then what can you eat?” There are so many other things that I can eat to get my protein. Since then I have journeyed into an amazing health and fitness journey and I try to put only organic products in my body.
I don’t believe the life an innocent animal should be sacrificed just so people can eat them. There are so many other ways that we can get a good source of protein besides killing an animal. I would rather eat my quinoa, lentils and beans instead of sacrifice a life for no reason.
There was a time that I had gotten very sick. People kept telling me that it was because I did not eat meat and I was not getting the proper nutrients and my body was lacking something. Given my condition, I was desperate to try anything so I started eating meat again for about 6 months. And guess what? No changes. I stopped eating meat again and reverted back to my vegetarian lifestyle. I have seen several doctors including specialists who have done a complete vitamin panel on me numerous times and my numbers still check out great. I have tested the theory and I have proven to myself that it is 100% safe to be a vegetarian. I will stick to my tofu any day instead of eating an innocent animal.
