Why I Don't Care What Trump Said This Week

Every five minutes it seems we are bombarded with Trump’s next big scandal. We are forced to reckon with the idea that this man, who is completely underqualified and undeserving to be president, is up to lead our great nation. As the scandals pile up it’s hard to wrap your head around the fact that people are actually voting for him. They are voting for this spray tanned troll doll who has tarnished the image of the Republican Party, and warped many of the values it has long stood for.

Why?

Well, that’s the easy part, people believe in his message. His message of “I’m not a politician, I’m here to tell it as it is and get stuff done” is something appealing to so many people who now have an inherent distrust of our two party system. I don’t blame them, our congress has let us down and instead of creating compromise they have simply barricaded party lines and isolated independent voters.

But my problem also resides in that same statement of “I’m not a politician” because simply he is not. He does not carry himself with the dignity nor the decorum of a leader. His policy of “tell it like it is” is dangerous, and in a world that is as unstable as ours, we need a leader who will approach foreign affairs with an open mind and respect to other cultures and ways of life. Not someone that has time and time again shown a blatant disrespect for people of different religions, cultural background, socioeconomic statuses, gender, sexuality, and disability. Not someone that's only political stance has been to say what we should be afraid of, and then tell us who we should blame for it. We need a leader that is going to represent the open-mindedness and progressive attitude that our great country has always stood for, one that approaches a conflict with the levelheadedness and poise of a leader open to compromise and change.

If that’s Hilary, I don’t know, but I know that it is not Trump.

However, my voice doesn’t really matter. My political opinions are basically just another person screaming into a void behind the screen of a laptop, because at this late stage in the campaigns, there really isn’t anything that I can say to change anyone’s mind. And in that same vein, there isn’t anything that Trump can say to change the minds of his unwavering supporters. We can scream on twitter about the hypocrisy of his policies and his supporters, we can repost, share and retweet political analyses that warn against the peril of his presidency, and we can yell and shriek until our lungs give out about his disrespect for this nation, but it is all pointless if no one is listening. His supporters have made up their minds. They hate “Crooked Hillary” and that’s all there is to it.

That is their decision and I respect their right to make it.

This is why I don’t care what Trump said this week or next week or the week after that. I don’t care because it’s not going to change anything. Do you know what is going to change something? Your vote. Going into this election with this mindset that people are going to vote for him no matter what he says means that it’s more important than ever to encourage any and everyone to vote. No matter what you say, your voice matters in this election. You matter in this election. If you are offended by Trump’s message, if you are disgusted by his attitude towards the majority of the American population or you’re just offended by his hair cut, vote. Use this power, this right, that many are not fortunate enough to have, and help shape a nation that is what you want it to be.

A true representation of you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
