Speaking in front of the class. Going up to someone you like. Saying your opinion on something. Wearing something your friend told you not to wear. Trying something for the first time. What do all these things have in common? All of them take courage. Such a simple thing, but so hard to find sometimes. I have learned throughout my life, that without having courage, I would have missed out on a lot of great opportunities.
For some people, having courage comes easy. They can speak in front of a group of people without having any problem or when trying something for the first time they seem fearless. For others, such as myself, it does not come that easily. Speaking in front of a group of people makes me so nervous, or even approaching a group of people I don't know scares me. In these situations, it was so important for me to find the courage to do what I was scared to do.
It is not easy to face something you're scared of. Facing your fears is such an unnatural thing. There's probably a reason you're scared to do something. A bad memory of something, the thought of being uncomfortable, out of place or even feeling a little lost. I have learned that it is so important to find the courage to be uncomfortable, lost, out of place. Without facing what we're scared to do, without being uncomfortable, we would miss out on amazing opportunities. Even if you think you can't do something, you can't go up to the person you like, you can't introduce yourself to a group of new people, you can't climb to the top of the mountain because you're scared of heights, just remember that you can. All you have to do is dig deep, have faith in yourself and believe that you CAN do it.
As a wise person once said, (kidding it's from Finding Nemo, but Nemo is pretty wise), "have the courage to touch the butt". The butt can be whatever you're scared to do. Just have the courage to do it.
