Ever at home with your family and honestly have nothing to do? You have already watched all the shows on Netflix you planned to binge watch and there is nothing appealing on TV. Put down the technology and bust out some board games with the family and enjoy the quality time that you have together. My family is infamous for playing board games or card games, so whenever someone comes over we offer various types; here are a couple suggestions to bring to your table.
Splendor
This game works best with three people, but you can play with up to four. Collecting gem chips to pay for cards, you have to collect enough cards to have a suitor visit you, but the catch is someone may take the card you want, or even reserve it, preventing you from collecting the right gem. Not much of a table talking game, but the strategy behind it makes you want to be three steps ahead of everyone else.
Munchkin
This game frustrated me in the beginning. I absolutely hated it because it was a backstabbing, manipulative little game and it really brought out my competitive side. But after playing it a couple of times, it grew on me. This game requires at least 30 minutes, but will likely take longer due to the amount of negotiating and treasure hunting you get from helping your so-called "friends" defeat the monster.
The object of the game is to get to level 10 by defeating all the monsters you come in contact with. Some may be a higher level than you, so you have to ask for help and negotiate. But once you get closer to level 10, the help seems to decrease and you are basically on your own. What is also great about this game is the expansion packs that can be added on instead of having the same cards every time you play it.
Betrayal at House on the Hill
My family first played this game when we were down in Daytona for vacation so it was all new to us. At first, everyone is exploring the rooms and all the events happen, but if you get an omen card, you have to make a haunt roll. With six dice, you have to roll a number greater than the omen cards on the field. Then, depending on which room and which omen card is played, the scenario differs and the haunt begins. All against the one betrayer, you must work as a team to defeat the situation, but do not think you have it that easy. Sometimes the betrayer has a better situation and can come out on top in just a couple of turns.
And if board games do not seem to be working out, try out card games. Games ranging from Hand and Foot, Oh Heck!, and Sequence are games that have been played at my house ever since I was a kid.
