Don't Apologize For Being Emotional

If I want to cry while watching a cute kitten video, I'm going to cry. Go ahead, judge me.

Don't Apologize For Being Emotional

You can feel it; the pressure building up in your sinuses, your throat tightening up, your vision goes blurry, and your face gets red hot. Waterfalls are about to come pouring from your eyes. You're about to cry. Well, you then start to cry and people just look at you, almost like you've got a third eye on your forehead. You're just crying. It's really no big deal.

It seems like this society condones those who are emotional, especially those who are overly emotional and can start crying just from looking at a picture of a little kitten (I'm guilty of this). And if you're easily angered, oh boy, you've automatically got anger issues. Really? Maybe whatever got you feeling like that hit a nerve or was the last straw. Whatever the "issue," don't worry about it. You're allowed to show emotions. You're human after all.

I don't understand why it is such a big deal to show emotion out in public. It's almost seen as deviance just because you should be able to control your feelings. I'd like to think I have good control over my emotions, but sometimes I just get tired, stressed, or just have a bad day. These things happen and, you know what, I usually end up crying after it's gone on for so long or I just can't take it any longer. And if I'm out in public when the world caves in on me, I don't care. I'll cry right there in the middle of the store, classroom, wherever, and I won't care because guess what? I'm too busy being upset with whatever's going on in my life to care about what others are thinking of me and my sudden outburst of emotion.

That's it. Right there. If you're emotional, be emotional. Don't be sorry about it, don't worry about what others are thinking because in the end, all that matters is how you feel. Crying can honestly sometimes make everything better, so if you need to cry then let it out. Guy, girl, whoever. Just cry, or ball your hands into a fist, or scream into a pillow or your book bag. Do what you need to do to feel better (unless it involves causing harm to someone else). Go where you need to go to feel better, too. Seriously, if you haven't done it, cry in the shower. I have no idea what it is about that setting, but shower cries are the most satisfying.

Anyways, don't feel bad or embarrassed because you are "more emotional" than others. Seriously, we need more people like you in the world because we've got too many people who are like anti-emotions. Like, no. Be human, not a robot. So, to all those who cry just from watching a video of a little puppy getting groomed or a kitten wearing a lobster costume, cry away because I'll be right there watching the same videos bawling at the adorableness alongside you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
