Why Donald Trump's Presidential Run Is No Joke

It's been five months, and Donald Trump is still in the race. Why?

A presidential candidate who does not believe that $1 million is a lot of money continues to lead the polls. My question, like many others out there, is how?

Before we dive in, let's establish some key facts. Donald Trump is a real estate mogul and was host of the hit show Celebrity Apprentice. He has no past political experience and is most well known for his outlandish comments such as, "I am very, very rich."

If this was five months ago I would discuss Trump's inability to make a mark in the race. It is clear, however this is not the end of "Presidential Trump." He, along with Ben Carson are dominating the polls. It seems the days of "The Donald" are behind us as we strive to Make America Great Again.

Trump is a political outsider. All of the anger people have with the goings on in Washington do not apply to him. So, what does he do? He has taken that anger and preys on it to ignite his campaign. After 10:00 at night, of course, and on Twitter, to be precise.

People are angry about illegal immigration, so he dives right in. He gives the ideal answer; get rid of illegals and give the jobs back to American citizens. As entertaining as the idea of building a wall (and having Mexico pay for it) might be, it is impossible. Yet there is a large community of individuals who need to be heard now.

These people need jobs to support their families and are looking for any reassuring notion that things will turn around. Trump is the voice of the people. His policies, however are "quick fix" answers with no real substance.

As an authoritative figure, this has done nothing but let a group of angry people loose on the streets. His supporters are widely known for radical behavior (thinkprogress.org)-- yelling profanity and spitting at progressive activists. Trump's response (Huffington Post)? "I will say the people following me are very passionate."

Trump is also known for offensive behavior towards women. He has been accused of calling women fat, pigs and dogs. When he was confronted with this question at the first debate, his response was (Washington Post):

"Only Rosie O' Donnell."

Women do not have equal pay in this country. We are facing increasing discrimination as a gender and for Trump to make a spectacle of this shows his unpreparedness for the role of President of the United States.

Trump is still a top contender as the Republican nominee. A man who has made racist remarks, patronized women and initiated violent behavior is leading the polls. This is no joke.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
