I have no evidence for what I’m about to propose. It is neither based in fact, nor logically defensible. Yet I have also come to the conclusion that I am completely correct in my assertions, and I seriously doubt anything will convince me otherwise.
Donald Trump is a villain. Now, I’m not talking about his social polices like some Liberals might think, and I’m not talking about his effect on the Republican party like some Conservatives might assume… I use the word villain in the most apolitical way possible.
When I say villain, I’m talking full on Emperor Palpatine / Marvel movie HYDRA agent / James Bond Mastermind / Lex Luthor type figure: the sort of guy that rises to power because he loves power and won’t stop short of world domination. He already has the money and the influence, but in fiction, money and influence never suffice. Villains always have the desire to come out from the shadows and take the true power for themselves.
Politically, Trump has been a compulsive flip flopper. He admits during his business career he hedged his bets, donating everywhere, and complimenting many politicians and their policies – all in order to call in favors when the time was right. Once, he claimed to have bribed Hillary Clinton to his wedding with campaign donations. He’s endorsed universal health care and been pro-choice in the past, both of which he’s now vehemently against.
So we know he’s a master manipulator with no steady ideology. No ideology that is, except for making himself more powerful and wealthy. Now despite this, Trump has cultivated a largely positive cultural image. He was the face of an extremely successful television show and the author of a bestselling book (both of which obviously increased his goal of cultural domination).
This is a classic villain move! Remember in the Star Wars prequels, (for a moment ignore the fact that the original trilogy was far better) within a matter of years Senator Palpatine went from engineering a trade war on Naboo, to the Galactic President who engineered a full scale Civil War, to Emperor – all the while keeping public and political support! Hell, he went from killing Mace Windu to becoming Emperor in like 48 hours. Lex Luthor got himself elected president. And Marvel shows multiple high-ranking government officials as secretly evil: look at House of Cards. If we accept fiction as a reflection of reality, it becomes explicitly clear that the pinnacle of government is always the goal for power-crazed, ambition-blinded villains. It’s the position from which they can best enact their evil schemes.
Now I’m not saying we should expect Trump to shoot lightning from his fingers, or for him to have a vendetta against a man in a red cape and spandex pants. I’m simply proposing that we should accept that Trump clearly fits all the prototypical villainous behavior (even his hair looks villainous), and that we shouldn’t be particularly surprised if his ultimate goals end with him being Supreme Dictator of The World. Who knows what his specific evil plan is, but I highly expect he has one, and we will find out in due time.
