A couple months ago, when Donald Trump said he would run for president, a majority of the population, including myself, probably thought it was a joke. I said that there was no way he could win and this would blow over quickly. Fast-forward to today, Trump is the leading candidate to represent the Republican Party in the general election against either Hilary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. Currently,Trump has the most delegates among any other republican candidate. It is both astonishing and embarrassing for the Republican Party that Trump has a real chance of winning the nomination.
Trump has depicted himself in my eyes to be a racist who is spreading fear and hatred to gain many votes from Americans who are scared and frustrated with the current presidential administration. However ,that is still no excuse to let Trump go this far. Let me say that I do not like any of the republicans fighting for the nomination, but in my opinion Trump is the worst. Throughout the Republican National Debates, we have seen many inappropriate comments usually started by Trump.
How can voters realistically vote for a man who has caused more bad than good for his party?
Donald Trump has repeatedly called Marco Rubio a “lightweight” and “little guy”. John Kasich was called irrelevant to the race and mocked by Trump after being told he should drop out. All of the Republican candidates have had their fair share of insults from Trump. For the American people to take a man seriously who just resorts to elementary name calling and insults to the people who are in the same party as him is just ridiculous.
Day after day, I find myself asking when this joke will be over. The joke continues to progress as Trump, who does not have a straight forward answer for anything, is likely to win the GOP nomination. Every time Trump is asked a question about policy or any pressing issue, he answers with statements that lack sustenance and quite frankly insult the intelligence of the listener. No matter the question, Trump will answer with something like this:
"We are going to negotiate the best deal."
"I am going to surround myself with the best people."
"We are going to win, win, win."
"I am going to make the Mexican government pay for the big wall to separate the border."
"I am going to do the right thing."
“Believe me.”
These may be attractive answers to hear if you want to believe in hopes and fairy tales, but they lack any depth. Saying you are going to negotiate a deal, surround yourself with the best people and assure people that you are going to do the right thing is not a plan at all. How can anyone "believe" Trump when every time he is asked a question about what he plans to actually do, he either insults the other candidates, insults the moderator, or insults another country where he gets his illegal immigrant workers?
For someone like Trump to actually have a chance is ridiculous. It shows something about America as a country. Is America really the type of country who backs a candidate who does not answer a single question and spits out racism and hate at every turn? Trump is a joke taken too far. At the very least, his foolishness has helped whomever the democratic nominee will be to have an edge in the general election.
