Doing Disney As An Adult

Or a not-so-grownup grownup.

Doing Disney As An Adult
Hello Giggles

Although most of your probably aren't as Disney crazed as I am, I would guess you'll probably go to Disney at some time in your adult life. Whether it be for a first visit or an 800th, doing Disney as an adult, or a not so little kid, is definitely different than your earlier theme park experiences. It's important to know that, and plan ahead for it. That way you can revel in all of the Disney childhood awesomeness, and still enjoy plenty of adult Disney perks.

1. Pick what rides are most important to your childhood self.

When going to Disney as an adult it is important to prioritize what rides matter the most. You should plan your day around the rides that give you the warmest childhood memories, or, if it's your first visit, the ones themed around your most loved Disney movies. That way when you want to linger a little longer enjoying that Dole Whip in the shade, you won't feel guilty about missing out on Peter Pan. If you go on these rides early you may also avoid the longest lines of the day since many families choose to sleep in a little extra on vacation.

2. Enjoy the food, and especially the drinks.

Especially in the last few years, the food game at Disney has gotten off the charts. There are all new kinds of delectable goodies, including pulled pork mac and cheese, Nutella waffle sandwiches, and even Mickey shaped macarons. Now that you're older, and can be in charge of all of the fattening food you get to eat, you can splurge on all the fun foods Disney has to offer. And if you're 21+ you can enjoy all of the irresistible alcoholic beverages. In 3 our of 4 of the Disney parks (Magic Kingdom does remain totally kid friendly except in specialty restaurants) you can find park-themed adult beverages along your walk to the rides. In Hollywood Studios you can get a hard root beer float, and in Epcot there are beverages from all over the world. So go ahead and enjoy, you'll be happy you did.

3. Indulge in the merchandise... just a little.

Disney merchandise can be overwhelming. Once you get over the stage of needing everything you own to be Anna and Elsa themed (although let's face it, some of us don't), you may feel like shopping in Disney is pointless. Well, I am here to tell you that is absolutely wrong. Disney theme park stores have mastered the art of subtlety. If you're looking for souvenir items that aren't too over the top Disney-fied, check out the Disney coffee or shot glasses. They are definitely Disney, but usable and fun. Or you could go for holiday tree ornaments, because who would't want Tinkerbell flying through their evergreen? However, it's very easy to go overboard in Disney park stores, so think of things you want before you go, that way you don't need to purchase a new suitcase for all your new knick-knacks.

4. Explore Disney Springs.

If you've never been to Disney Springs (formerly known as Downtown Disney) then you probably know very little about one of the most underrated spots on Disney property. However, if you have been you know how amazing this place truly is. Disney springs can be a great place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the parks, and enjoy famous Disney service in a less themed area. Disney Springs has been filled to the brim with restaurants, shops, and even live shows. It offers everything from the largest Disney store in the world, to Cirque Du Soleil, to Wolfgang Puck's Grand Cafe. Whatever you're looking for, you can definitely find it here.

5. Lounge around the resorts.

Disney resorts are famous for their themed rooms, large pools, and great gift shops. However, if you're going as a "big kid" I encourage you to look a little deeper. Many of them have unique amenities and can be worth the extra cost of staying on property. The resorts offer you a more leisurely access to the parks, and often have spas, relaxing adult pools, and specialty restaurants. All of this can make it worth it to plan a hotel day. Plus the day off from all the rides and people will leave you well-rested for the rest of your trip.

Overall the most important thing about doing Disney as an adult is to figure out what you enjoy most. If you love coasters make sure you book your fast passes ahead of time so you can skip lines and get on even more rides. If you're a foodie consider visiting during the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. And if you love to shop make sure you bring that extra bag for all the souvenirs you'll bring home. Go slow and enjoy Disney for all it has to offer. Just make sure you hit all your must-haves.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
