There’s nothing like the feeling of coming home from college and having three tails wagging uncontrollably waiting for you to walk in the front door. No matter how long it’s been since I last saw my dogs, they still show the same amount of love every single time I come home whether it be from work, the store, or two months at college. There’s a special bond between a human and a dog that can never be broken.
My family has always had at least one dog since I was born. Our first black lab was awesome. She was so gentle even when I was rough with her and pulled her tail. She even followed me and kept me safe when I’d sneak out of the house when I was a toddler. Every night, she’d walk throughout the house and check every room to make sure we were all home and safe.
Now we have two black lab mixes. They are the most entertaining dogs I've ever seen. Our one dog won’t go upstairs to bed until everyone is in bed and the front door is locked. If anyone makes a sound or if there is a sound outside, she’ll let us know in a heartbeat.
That’s the thing about dogs. They do so much for us and ask for very little in return. They keep us safe, entertain us, and show us love even when we don’t ask for it. All they want in return is a pat on the head or a treat (maybe). Dogs love going for long walks with you or they’ll sit and listen to you vent your whole life to them. Although, sometimes they probably have no clue what you’re saying.
Dogs accompany you on trips no matter the distance and will forever be loyal to you. You can bet that your dog will always be by your side while some others may not. They put a smile on your face when you need one and comfort you when you’re sad.
My dogs are my best friends. There’s no greater feeling than going to bed after a long day and having their little bodies snuggle up right next to you. It’s almost like a comfort and all of your cares seem to go away because you’re sleeping next to someone who loves you so much.
It doesn’t take much to entertain a dog. Grab a stick and the dog will be happy for hours. They’re not high maintenance or expect a steak dinner at least once a week. However, with their adorable begging faces, they make it so hard to resist giving them the leftover scraps from your dinner.
Lastly, as you age your dogs ages with you. Those active years were their puppy years and as the years go on, dogs age with you. But no matter how old and grey you or your dog gets, they will always love you and be by your side.
If you’re a dog owner, please turn to them and thank them for loving you and for being a four-legged loving best friend.
