Why Dogs Make The Greatest Best Friends

Here are some things all dog owners can agree on.

Why Dogs Make The Greatest Best Friends

If you're like most dog parents, you can agree that dogs are truly man's best friends. Since getting my dog, I have learned to love his silly little personality traits: his sloppy kisses and how he barks in his sleep. He is my little buddy, and if I could take him everywhere with me, I would. My dog is better than any human friend I have ever had, or could hope to have. He's my shoulder to cry on (mostly because he thinks my tears taste good...gross, dude) and he is always happy to see me. So, crazy dog people, if you're like me, I think you'll agree on these ten reasons why dogs make the greatest best friends.

1. They will love you unconditionally.

It's true that our dogs love us for who we are. My pup doesn't judge me for eating ice cream for dinner or for liking "Grey's Anatomy" too much; he loves me despite my flaws.

2. They will teach you that patience really is a virtue.

Like any good friend, a dog teaches you important life lessons. Getting a dog in the middle of winter in Colorado wasn't a great idea, and I spent countless nights shivering while my dog frolicked about, ate snow and did all things but pee. This taught me that sometimes circumstances are uncontrollable, and having the patience to wait them out will reap the benefits of many snuggles in the end.

3.They won't judge your Starbucks addiction.

They may even accompany you to enjoy their very own "pupichinos."

4. They will remind you what is truly important.

Sometimes my dog literally eats my homework, but then I am reminded that even though my school is important, it's OK to take a break and play with my little guy. He keeps my priorities in check.

5. They will motivate you to work harder.

"I work hard so my dog can have a better life," is a quote many dog parents can relate to. My dog motivates me to work hard to provide what is best for him, and also to work to be the person that he believes I am.

6. They will snuggle you when you're upset.

Dogs are always in the mood to cheer you up. They may not be able to give friendly advice, but they can give you tons of friendship cuddles, and that makes all the difference.

7. They are always up for an adventure.

Like a true Coloradan, my dog loves all things outdoors. He is my adventure buddy, and is always willing to try something new, or keep me company on one of our favorite hikes.

8. They will love your family.

Just like a human friend who treats your family like their own, your dog will inevitably treat your parents and siblings with love and affection as if he were their dog. He will become the new family pet and love every second of it!

9. They will love your other friends.

Unlike some human friends who gossip about other friends or get jealous when you hang out with other people, your dog will embrace all of your friends with a wagging tail and lots of kisses. He will always be happy to hang out in groups and never demand that he be your only friend.

10. They will complete your family.

My puppy is so much more than a best friend; he is my and my boyfriend's furry child. He brings so much joy to our lives and is the best friend we could ever ask for.

There are countless reasons why dogs make the greatest best friends but I think all dog owners can agree that these are some of the top ones. At the end of the day, having your best friend run to you, tail wagging, is the best feeling in the whole world and I know none of us would trade it for anything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
