Dogs, commonly referred to as man’s best friend, are probably the closest things to angels that humans will ever know. Despite the language barrier, dogs and their owners form a mutual bond of love and dependence. The four-legged balls of fur squirm into our hearts the day of their adoption and remain a part of it long after their short lifespans. Despite all the benefits of owning a dog, they are a big commitment that requires time, patience and money. They are a responsibility that not everyone is able to handle. If you want a dog, but for some reason are unable to own one at this point in life, you may be suffering from puppy withdrawal. You tell yourself maybe you’ll be ready next year, but thinking responsibly still doesn’t ease the longing. These are the everyday woes of dog lovers:
- Waking up on your own instead of being jumped on. A little enthusiasm never hurt on a Monday morning.
- Dropping food on the floor and having to pick it up yourself. Dogs are the best vacuums you will ever have.
- Having to use a blanket to keep warm instead of a dog. Cuddling up to your dog on a cold night is the best way to fall asleep.
- The “star-crossed lovers” feeling when you see a dog in public but are too far away from it. So close, yet so far.
- Or even worse, when a stranger says you can’t pet their dog. The nerve of some people.
- Thinking you’d actually get outside and exercise if you had a dog to run with. Running next to a cute dog would draw strangers' eyes away from your exercise struggles.
- No one is happy to see you when you get home. I really doubt my roommates sit at the door waiting for me to return all day like a dog would.
- The only hair you’re covered in is your own. Hair isn't so bad when it's from a dog, right?
- Being helpless if that noise in the dark is actually a murderer. Where's Lassie when you need her?
- Having no one to share an understanding glance and a sigh with after a bad day. Somehow dogs just know.
- Scrolling through endless pictures of dogs on Instagram and not having anything to contribute. Think of all the likes you would get.
- When you almost get in a car accident because you’re staring at a cute dog on the sidewalk. Whoops, sorry. Too busy looking at all that cuteness.
- Meeting your friend’s new dog and feeling the tick of your biological puppy clock. Tick-Tock. When will it be your turn?
- Not having an excuse to leave a bad party early. "Oh I think I have to go... I have to let my dog out."
- Lacking the perfect road-trip companion. Dogs wouldn't complain about your music selection--they're just happy to be along for the ride.
