The Jonas Comeback

Breaking barriers with their music, DNCE is taking the world by storm.

The Jonas Comeback

Jonas was the name on every kid's lips from 2005-2009 when the band had hit its peak of popularity. Comprised of three talented brothers from New Jersey, with hits like “Year 3000," “Burnin' Up," and “SOS,” the Jonas Brothers tore up the entertainment industry by being featured in numerous movies, their own TV show, and countless songs. After the band split up, it was like a part of our childhood had died, but when Joe Jonas introduced to the world his new band DNCE, there was hope everywhere that Jonas would rise to popularity once more. Once “Cake by the Ocean” reached number one in multiple countries around the world, it was established that DNCE was not only here to stay, but was going to pave the way for Joe Jonas’ comeback.

In October of 2015, DNCE released their first EP titled “SWAAY” which featured “Cake by the Ocean” as the lead single of the EP. That record itself reached a peak of number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. Following “Cake by the Ocean," “Toothbrush” was released to the public and displayed on YouTube on May 19. Within a couple of days, that track has reached a little more than three million views and people are loving the music video. And that’s because not only is it a catchy song, but it features model Ashley Graham. Who’s Ashley Graham, you ask? She’s appeared in numerous covers and campaigns for Calvin Klein, Elle, Glamour, and Sports Illustrated to name a few but what makes her stand out are her curves. She’s not the stereotypical model that you find while flipping through magazines but by embracing her curves and becoming a body activist, Ashley Graham has taken the model world by storm. So when Joe Jonas decided to feature her as his love interest in “Toothbrush” the internet went crazy, as this was one of the few examples where a curvy model was being featured. Fans said it was definitely a wonderful step in the right direction for body positivity and that by Ashley Graham being a role model for curvy girls around the world, fans fell even more in love with DNCE and Joe Jonas than they already were.

As a fan of the Jonas Brothers since they became a band, I’m proud to know that they are still making an impact even after disassembling in 2013. It can be difficult for any band to have any sort of a comeback, let alone for the members to succeed individually with people thinking that they aren’t as good individually as they were as a band. But with Nick Jonas’ more than successful solo career and DNCE killing it as a band, it just proves that the Jonas Brothers weren’t just a trend of a couple years. Considering how catchy “Cake by the Ocean” and “Toothbrush” are, I, along with fans everywhere, eagerly await new music from DNCE as their full length album is sure to reach popularity with those two singles being an indication of just how impressive DNCE can be.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
