Why Distracted Driving Isn't Funny

Recently the internet has been flooded with stories of distracted driving. Well, I'm here to tell you DO NOT DRIVE DISTRACTED. If you sit back and think about it, your little ol' self is maneuvering the wheel of a hunk of metal that weighs roughly 4,079 pounds.

Doesn't sound so easy now does it? One piece of news that hasn't recently caught my attention is the female student riding around in the Barbie jeep. My sincerest apologies for anyone who thisnext sentence might offend. This girl is a spoiled, inconsiderate idiot who thinks she can get away with anything. Not sure if everyone knows the real reason she is driving in that Barbie jeep, her real car got taken away.

That's right, this girl is getting national attention for driving under the influence and getting her license taken away. As a result, her father took away her car and gave her a bike to get around campus. But Miss comedian thought she'd draw even more attention to herself by cruising down campus in a children's toy. People people people, it is so dangerous to drive under the influence! DON'T DO IT. Call a cab, call a friend, walk, but do not but your life and the lives of others in danger. I know that no one should have to carry the guilt of hurting someone else so think before you drive. With that being said, texting while driving is EQUALLY dangerous.

Do not text and drive.

Do you really think it is a smart idea to take your eyes off the road in the middle of rush hour traffic to look at your phone? In case there is any confusion, the answer is no. Friends, even family can wait. Nothing is so important that you need to put lives in danger for a text message. Be smart people. Most of the time you all know when what you're doing is wrong so trust your instinct. Have a passenger send a text for you if it's that important. I personally have seen the affects and aftermath of losing a friend to texting and driving. After her car was T-boned due to the other driving, my friend then passed away after being in a coma for a few hours. I wouldn't wish that kind of pain and confusion on any family like I saw hers go through. So put your phones away and stay sober if you're planning on getting behind the wheel, you will be so thankful that you did.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
