“Quick someone name an unavoidable human emotion!”
“Disappointment.”
I have learned throughout my life that every disappointment is a blessing. Every time life threw a curveball at me and things didn't go my way, the disappointment led to something greater and debatably even improved my life.
It’s wild to think that we can avoid disappointment. I know some people who are so afraid of being disappointed they no longer dream.
“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.” ~Alexander Pope
Everyone thinks the best way to avoid disappointment is to not expect anything from anyone, I have to disagree. How can anyone expect their life to reach its full potential when they are afraid of failing? It seems counter productive, disappointment is a feeling that is necessary to drive people.
Compare it to the idea that if you never have a bad day, you can never understand the feeling of a good day. You value something you earn a lot more when you have been disappointed because you understand what it’s like for something to not go your way. Disappointment makes you appreciative.
In Legally Blonde, the main character Elle Woods is constantly disappointed. She is disappointed with her expectations of law school, her ex boyfriend, stereotypes placed upon her, and what it actually means to be a lawyer.
Her disappointments motivate her to become a great lawyer who is passionate about what she does and she turns her disappointments into something productive.
Turn a negative into a positive and understand that being disappointed builds the character that you need in order to live a fulfilled life.
Every disappointment is a blessing in disguise and happens for a reason. Instead of fighting to not be disappointed, fight for satisfaction and happiness.
Being disappointed is an opportunity for so much more.
