Depression can overcome you, but you WILL survive.
Many times when we face hard times or tribulations, our first thoughts are, “What did I do to deserve this?” But the thing is, we have not done anything to deserve it. This is what is known as a “valley” that we WILL and MUST get through in order to make it to the mountain.
Surviving Depression
When you tell someone that you are depressed or emotional, they always assume you just are “crazy” or just a “typical girl”, which is not always true. When someone faces depression, they feel hopeless and even lifeless. Depression can overtake you, and control the way you live day to day. Some choose to let it over take them, but you can also choose to not let it overtake you, and you should not let it overtake you. The Lord did not give us the spirit of fear, and depression is definitely a spirit of fear and not from the God that I serve.
Depression recently has taken over my life, taken my joy, and my hope. Why? That is a great question, that still to this day, I do not know the answer to. I know that sounds unreal, that depression can actually do that, but until you have been in the dark pit you will never know how hopeless you can actually feel. Some days it is hard for me to even roll over and get out of my bed, because I cannot see the light pressing through my window and I do not want to see light; it is like I almost want to see dark. This is because the devil has us convinced that if we are in this dark pit, there is no way we can see the light of day or climb out of this pit. No one is forcing us to stay in this dark pit, but no one is forcing us to get out of it either. You can feel our heavenly Father stretching out His hand to pull us out, but are we willing to grab hold of Him and get out?
We serve a mighty God that wants us to see the sun in the sky, the birds flying around, and He wants us to be joyous through Him because we ARE over-comers.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Many, many times on this journey, I thought I was alone in this dark and foggy place. In reality though, there were several people fighting the same battle as I was, and am still, fighting daily. Until you realize that you are not the only one on this battlefield with depression, you will always feel alone. Sometimes it is good to be alone; Jesus wanted to be alone on the mountain to talk to the Father. Just imagine if we would just be alone, and be happy with it being just the Lord and us, how much we would learn and feel His mighty spirit. Do not get me wrong, I hate being alone, but it is a good lesson. Even if there is no one facing the same thing we are, we can hold to the promise that the Lord God almighty is fighting the fight with us. No matter what, HE will always be there guiding us through this fog, and helping us hold our shield up when we feel like we cannot hold it any longer.
