Why Delta Zeta's I Have A Choice Week Matters

The National Council of the Delta Zeta Sorority has hosted the I Have a Choice Week awareness campaign since 2006. This program works to teach alcohol abuse prevention and awareness through a week-long campaign. Through I Have a Choice Week, the chapters of the Delta Zeta Sorority will better learn the habits of healthy choices when it comes to consuming alcohol and attending and planning social events. The week of October 18th to the 24th will be I Have a Choice week, and all 165 collegiate chapters in the United States and Canada will be participating.

These events are sponsored by the Coalition of Higher Education Associations for Substance Abuse Prevention (CoHEASAP) as a part of the annual National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW). The Delta Zeta Sorority is proud to be a leader in this initiative to educate students in college about the dangers of alcohol abuse. The goal of this campaign is to inspire students to make smarter and healthy choices regarding alcohol. This program is not only for the benefit of the sisters of the Delta Zeta Sorority but for the benefit of all the university campuses instituting this program and the students they serve. Many areas of specific education will focus on "the effects of alcohol on one's body, the warning signs of alcohol abuse, social respect and consent around alcohol consumption, preventative social event planning processes and other topics" (from the Delta Zeta Sorority's website).

This campaign includes a calendar of topics for each day of the program during the week.

-October 18th: Kick-Off Celebration

-October 19th: Body First: Understanding the Effects of Alcohol on Your Body

-October 20th: Out of Body Experiences: Mixing Alcohol with Prescription and Other Drugs

-October 21st: Blurred Lines: Understanding Respect and Consent around Alcohol Use

-October 22nd: Thirsty Thursdays: Addressing Behaviors and Concerns about Alcohol Abuse

-October 23rd: The Perfect Pour: Understanding Standard Drink Sizes and Your BAC

The Xi Xi Chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority at the University of North Georgia will be hosting an event on October 22nd to focus on the effects of alcohol abuse. This event for i Have a Choice will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on the Promenade. During this event, participants will be able to buy three water balloons for $1. Participants will be able to throw these water balloons at a sister. The participant will be wearing Drunk Goggles while throwing the water balloons in order to better understand the way that alcohol can change the motor skills of even the most skilled of individuals. All of the proceeds of this event will be given to The Painted Turtle Camp. The Facebook event can be viewed here.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
