Thanksgiving is arguably the best holiday of the year. You get a long weekend off, you're presented with the opportunity to stuff your face with unbelievably good home-cooked food, and be around friends and family. The only thing that might make it a close runner-up to Christmas is the lack of presents. But a feast is still pretty good. Of all the foods, it's hard to decide which you prioritize when faced with a table covered in deliciousness. Be sure to at least snag a seat near the top 3.
Warning: you may begin to salivate heavily after reading this list.
1. Stuffing.
A true Thanksgiving food. In my family, this item is the one made in the most abundance because it goes so quickly and we want leftovers for days. There are so many ways it can be modified and prepared. My mom's recipe adds sausage and a splash of apple cider and it is truly amazing.
2. Pumpkin Pie.
Enough said.
3. Mashed Potatoes.
Not specific to Thanksgiving, but still another amazing item on the table. We eat them year round for a reason: they're too good to try and save for one day a year.
4.Turkey.
The icon of the holiday, what would Thanksgiving be without this giant bird as a centerpiece? We wouldn't be able to sleep so soundly after our meal without this one and its tryptophan.
5. Sweet Potato Casserole.
I'm not sure where you can go wrong with sweet potatoes, butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and toasted marshmallows.
6. Gravy.
One of the most important toppings of all foods. Thanksgiving may not be possible without gravy to douse our food in.
7. Apple Pie.
The most American dessert out there and so important to have on the table for an American holiday.
8. Cranberry Sauce.
Always an amazing addition to Turkey and stuffing and perfect in almost every Thanksgiving leftover recipe.
9. Veggies.
Carrots, Corn, Broccoli. It may not be everyone's favorite thing and it's often overlooked. But, it's good to at least pretend we're healthy by having them on the table--whether they are eaten or not.
10. Rolls.
Important for sopping up the excess gravy that is probably flooding our plates.
Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, so get your forks and fat pants ready. You'll definitely need them to enjoy all of the unbelievable holiday dishes. Happy feasting.
