With Thanksgiving over, and our stomachs probably still full, we find ourselves in the midst of the most wonderful time of the year. But here is an unpopular opinion: Thanksgiving isn’t all that great. I personally would rather just have two Christmases and be done with it. The food is sometimes good, but usually smells a lot better than it actually tastes. A day after we give thanks we create guerrilla teams to apprehend sales at our nearest mall. Then take into account the history behind it, and what eventually became of Native Americans; all in all I question this holiday.
So, from perhaps a more objective perspective than most, I will be ranking Thanksgiving foods by overall tastiness.
9. Sweet potatoes
Why? We already have mashed potatoes (the superior potatoes). I don’t trust people who like sweet potatoes. That’s like preferring sweet potato fries. It's just weird and wrong.
8. Pumpkin pie
The inferior pie of thanksgiving. Pumpkin is not that great, it’s too sweet, and the only reason to eat it is to have an excuse to use a mountain of whipped cream.
7. Cranberry Sauce
This is just too sweet, and yet there it is sitting on the table during dinner. It confuses my pallet and cranberries are kind of gross.
6. Green beans
Now I love green beans. But if they’re overcooked it’s like chewing sadness. Plus, you can have these literally all year round. Where’s the uniqueness? I want to be entertained thank you very much!
5. Turkey
I’m going to receive a lot of criticism for this one, but let’s be honest. The dark meat is the only good part, and usually the turkey is dry and overcooked. Overall, I think this dish gets more credit than it actually deserves. Honestly, who wouldn't prefer a nice steak?
4. Mashed Potatoes
Fluffy and great, but this dish can be easily messed up by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. I can't stand runny or lumpy mashed potatoes. Also, it’s not an exclusively Thanksgiving Day treat.
3. Apple Pie
This is delicious and sweet. Especially when your family remembers to get vanilla ice cream. The only reason it’s not higher is because I’m too miserable from stuffing my face to fully enjoy the pie.
2. Mac and Cheese
The only reason this is not further on the list is because my family does not make mac and cheese for Thanksgiving. I've brought it up every year, but my requests have continued to be denied. But can we all agree Macaroni is the best part of any meal?
1. Stuffing
Literally the best dish in the entire world. This is the only reason I wait for Thanksgiving every year. I will eat this until I literally hate myself. Bread peices, and warm, covered in delicious gravy? A whole plate please!
Of course all of this is just for fun, and I am in no way a food connoisseur. Disagree with me? Please comment your favorite and least favorite thanksgiving dishes. Happy Holidays everyone!
