How You Know You're In Deer Park

It's The Little Things.

How You Know You're In Deer Park

We all have our unique little things that separate our towns from each other. There are many obvious things we locals are so well known with, and we just know it's Deer Park.

1. We have all of the fast food places.

Aside from a few, pretty much all of the typical fast food places, such as McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, and recently Sonic, is all placed on the same road: Deer Park Ave. You can't go too far without seeing at least one fast food place.

2. So many pizza places.

Along with the fast food places, we literally have so many pizza places, you really can't miss any of them! They're almost on every corner along Deer Park Ave and other places as well.

3. No healthy fast food places.

Okay, we have Energy Fuel, but they are expensive! There is no actual healthy food place to stop in and actually get something fresh and healthy, other than smoothie and yogurt places. We should get on that, Deer Park...

4. Tanger Outlets.

Other than Riverhead, we're the only other town that has a Tanger Outlets, complete with stores and our own movie theater. Props to us.

5. Size.

Deer Park Ave is very long, but that's pretty much what makes up Deer Park. It's a pretty small town, and you're pretty much out of the town in about 10 minutes tops. Unless you stop at one of our many food locations, then that's a different story.

6. SkyZone.

Some towns have Bounce, or Air, but Deer Park has SkyZone, the only town to have it on Long Island. And we are the best; not that I'm being biased or anything.

7. Location.

We are literally smack in the middle of the island. If you want to go out east, it's about an hour or so away. If you want to go to the city, it's about the same time. You can't really go wrong when you're really in the middle of everything.

8. Bagels.

Not going to lie, we have some pretty freaking amazing bagels.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
